straight through de-cat vs cat (noise)

Right then, my car failed its MOT today due to an excessively noisy exhaust, even though the same bloke passed it last year but heh......

Anyway, Ive got the original K-Tec exhaust system and a straight through de-cat pipe which in truth does make it very loud. I havent heard a louder exhaust to be honest.....well not on a road lol!

I have the old cat somewhere in my garage, Im guessing this should be suffecient to reduce noise levels yes?

Does anyone have any first hand experience of how much louder their exhausts got after fitting a de-cat, as I fitted all my system together Ive only ever known it how it is.

Thanks

Tom

my last 5 passed with a straight thru no backbox popin motherf**ker, he he chamone! it depends on the cars age as well.

well the cat will be the same as far as noise levels go. Its only gonna be on the car for a few hours.....

never heard of it being failed on noise!

Did he give you a DB reading with associated atmo readings and the legal limit (if there is one).

My car was quite a lot quieter with the cat on, I think youll have no probs once its back on.

what make Decat has everyone got? Reason I ask is that BB said they sent mine out today and it will "adapt" for a Williams... what does that mean.

Dont like the sound of that, usually means loads of messing about and itll fit eventually, mines a powerflow so fits perfect cost me 70 pound. Not too bad really.

yeah thats what I thought Martin! Phoned em up they said its no problem, but until I see it in the flesh I wouldnt have been convinced.

Thanks for putting my mind at rest Ben, last thing I wanted was for the car to be off road for another few days!

still dont see how they can fail it for being too loud.
Well Im gonna take it to another test station once Ive had the other work done to make it pass (brakes).

See what they say.....

its legally IMPOSSIBLE to enforce sound regulations.

YOu could even take circuts to court for their lax sound testing methods.

Why would you take a car for mot with a decat fitted anyway? it will always fail on emissions, forget the noise lol :rasp:, or am I missing the point?
