Strange noise when accelerating

Hey folks

Ive been to see a car I really like. Its immaculate inside and out with a few choice mods for a ok price.

On the test drive it sounded fine until the seller accelerated hard. For example sitting at 2k rpm in 3rd,put the foot down and a funny sort of misfire sound comes from under the bonnet. Its a strange sound almost like a rumble that gets louder the faster you go(I don't mean a road noise rumble).

So any ideas what it could be? It's really hard to explain the noise tbh. Other than that I would of bought the car there and then

I take it its a clio of some description?

My 172 did this but after some impressive detective investigation work, I found it was where the cat meets the exhaust manifold. there was a slight gap and it sounded like it was coming from the engine bay, which was a tad weird. one new exhaust bracket for me though and no more noise. (at least this was my problem, it may be something else altogether for the car you saw)

Yes sorry it's a 172. It sound like a misfire when under load. Car runs perfect but when you accelerate hard it makes the noise. It's strange I've never heard a similar sound before

Sounds like it could be leads? Unless I knew what it sounded like my guess is as good as yours at the mo

sounds like it could be this.

is the noise a popping/banging/spluttering? I took the exhaust of my girlfriends 206, sounded just like that. I thought it sounded awesome, she didnt

Also, mine only did it when the engine was cold. Once it warmed up it was spot on!

Could try posting a video of the noise, maybe someone with some greater knowledge might be able to pick it up off that?

While I am here, are clutches on 182's air assisted in anyway? Every time I press the clutch in there is a swooosh noise.

It was a lifting eye loose in the engine bay(wasn't even for a Renault I don't think). But once that noise was away you could hear the rear problem, a massive blow from the exhaust somewhere so have the car a miss at its current price
