Struggling with Zaino Clear Seal

Had a pop at using some on my stepdad's car, but having a hellish time with it.

Car has just been washed and has AG ultra deep shine on it. I've misted the pad once and tried to apply it as little as possible as per the bottle.

Problem is it just causes a smeary oily looking patch about the pad size, and doesn't seem to go any further. That then needs repeated working to get rid of it. Clearly that's not how it's meant to work, so where am I going wrong?

Using one of these to spread? http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/acatalog/Wax___Sealant_Applictor_Pad.html then remove with an MF?

Used it before mate with no hassle?

New bottle, only bought it last month. Bought an i4d white cotton pad, like instructions said. Not supposed to buff it off. Wipe on and leave apparently. It just doesn't appear to go as far as it's meant to.
