TAPPING SOUND FROM TOP OF ENGINE ??

  CLIO 172
Tapping sound from top of engine ? { quite loud not a tick tick tick sound } Starts and ticks over spot on. recently had bad misfire from engine due to water round plugs which went away when dried out but was run with the misfire for short while. could running with the misfire have damaged anything else ?
Cambelt, aux belt, tensioner, plugs all renewed recently and ran brilliant upto the misfire.

Sound like dephaser pulley or who did the belt? did use correct timing tools & loosen all the pulleys?

Can't really say about the timing tools etc. Obviously its in their hands and you trust they know what they doing in that respect. As i said it ran perfect upto the damp problem

Thanks for that mat ed 30 but actually there is good news as going off down the road i lost all throttle and car stopped and the square orange light with the wavy line came on.{ Oh no }. Then started up and went like the proverbial stuff off a shovel and the tapping stopped. Going to see if all is ok when engine cold.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Renault :)

Yep all is well.
Moral : Don't wash a 172 engine :)
Water runs under the plastic cover which acts ike a window sill and drips water down around the plugs. And it apparently screws up the FBW throttle electrics etc etc.
Your sealed plug covers don't work Mr Renault.
And as for you water:rasp:
