Tesco 99 update & Tech info

We are unable to advise on the content of Shell Optimax, however I can confirm that our 99 octane unleaded petrol has a minimum RON of 99 and a MON of 87. It exceeds the British Standard Specifications for BS7800 - superunleaded fuel, and BSEN228 premium unleaded. It contains a high level of a detergent additive which exceeds the level of performance specified by Major European Motor Manufacturers, to help keep engine fuel systems clean.

Here is an updated list of stores which this sell this fuel together with the dates of forthcoming stores, this list from Head office suggests our Portsmouth store should already have begun selling it:

the tesco's in lakeside charge the same price for it as the one a couple of miles away charge for normal unleaded  :S
its 93.9p per litre - I use the 99ron now.

  BMW 320d SE
Yeah Inoticed that the ohter day. They've replaced all the old LRP pumps. I wonder if it's any good - and more to the point - if it's any better than Optimax?

My Car is mapped for min 98 ron (supposed to be 100 ron) so I will get an increase in power. Gald it has detergents in it as I would stick with Optimax otherwise. I'm down to Tescos when I run dry

Weird that - the Tesco here in Salisbury has a pump that says its 99ron but not on the list.

Maybe thats why the car felt slow after filling up! Shell cheaper than Tesco here too so keep on the Optimax for now me thinks.

Errr...........more affluent region? (Runs away and hides) ;)

Though most people in London areas don't drive. Anyway - most supercars are bought in the N/W - hence Lamborghini opening a showroom in Stockport.

We need 99RON petrol!

Tesco don't manufacture their own fuel so I'm wandering where they get this 99RON, seeing as none of the major fuel companies sell it here in the UK.

Interesting reads.

Funnily enough I would say that clios are faster up North due to the air being colder?

Get in there :D

I've always topped up with 99 RON from Winchester when I've been travelling "upwards". Now they've got it at my local Tesco at Burseldon Towers :). It's good stuff and I will be using it assuming they've not priced it more than Opti.

  Type-R
Same here I have been using it for a while now and I can tell no diffrence between Optimax or Tesco's super, apart from its 6p cheaper a litre

Nothing in the SW, unless I've missed one... :(

Nope, none for me here in Westbury area as well, nearest is Bristol I think. Bit of a crapper considering there isn't even Optimax available for 30 miles in any direction.

Plenty of exotica in these parts but they seem to have to make do with the standard stuff as well, I saw a Ferrari F355 filling up with 95 at our local recently!

As a possible answer as to why Salisbury wasn't on that list, iirc Salisbury, Winchester and somewhere else were the original trial locations and therefore have had it for quite some time now, maybe everyone knows about it!

  Lotus Elise 111R
Picked up a tank full in Shoreham, West Sussex, at 90.9 last week. That compares with my local Tesco, 10 miles from shoreham, where it is 93.9 and normal is 90.9!!

Seems bit weird, but will now fill up with 99 at 97 prices, can't be bad....oh and BP and shell are another 5-6p on top, I DON'T THINK SO, as this Tesco stuff is great!

Too many people have commented that they don't like the tesco 99RON fuel, and their cars run better on Optimax!

I know what I'll be sticking to anyway.....

Salisbury still have it - I put £20 worth on Saturday night :D

I filled up the day they started doing it, the woman behind the desk said she'd seen some flash cars in that night lol

Now somebody needs to find out the MON/RON of optimax so we can tell which fuel is actually better.

well doh!!! lol

no seriously, credit due to tesco for actually saying their MON is a paltry 87 lol!

who in the real world gives a crap about RON!?

what is optimax anyway, i've still not found out, or rather, they've not replied to my emails.

86.9...........sheesh, why dont i just look at the internet sometimes.

So the RON average for tesco is 93 and 92.45 for optimax..........

So on paper, tesco is better all round......with the benefit of price.
