That pink bagged baguette

I can't quite get my head around how some rubber bags can hold up a whole car... but then I guess they raise sunken ships with bags of air, and they are a lot heavier :D lol

My 2015 Audi RS6 was on Air suspension, so is my present 2018 Audi Q7.. Both had/have active setups you'd struggle to tell the difference between a sprung car and airbagged car..

Got around to getting it all ready for the engine to come out today. Just the shafts to come off and crack off the engine mounts.

i had someone work on the car before it got put away in the garage, new clutch and all new bushes on the front, and i can happily say i wont let them work on it again. One of the threads for the Driveshaft had been stripped in the gearbox so I've had to drill it, and replace it with a helicoil. And the bolts for one of the anti roll bar bushes had been put on that tight it had ripped the rubber in half and completely stripped the threads.

but all the damaged bushes will get replaced. Along with new disks and pads for the front set up.

Been a while since ive done any work on this, priorities have changed recently so progress has been slow. Subframe and a few other bits have been sent off for powdercoating so i should expect to get them back sometime soon.

as im no longer running a form of a/c or oem heater unit. Im stuck on how to remove this. Im guessing the rest of the removal involves taking the dash out. Could anyone possibly help before i begin to remove the dash.

Again, been prioritising other things so work has been slow. Started the pain of a job which was removing the seam sealer and getting the bay prepped for fab work.
9A4BDE13-4180-4223-95A9-785E658F8041.jpeg
Also roughly marked out areas that need cutting out for more custom fab work to be done in the arches, to allow for a bigger wheel to fit and for the wheels to sit lower.

Bit more work done recently. Started removing rusted areas, applied some rust prevention over and then some primer.
423AC954-00F4-4C9C-8894-5EFD7B14B62B.jpeg

Also started to apply fibreglass filler into the areas that are going to be smoothed.
3B51E400-95D5-4481-8FA5-679BA6753BE2.jpeg

Templates made up using card and then cut out and bent into shape ready to be welded into place. Was my first time fabricating with metal, so it was all a learning experience to me.

Fair play for giving all that a go. I had virtually no fabrication experience before I started building my last Escort. It's such a great learning experience just cracking on and having a go. I mean, I'm still not very good at it, but I had fun all the same 🤣

Bags are for shopping.....

In all fairness I like this, it takes me back as a few have said. Nice to see some custom out of the box work being done. Whats the score with a heater? Trust me, not having one is horrible.

Keep up the good work and keep posting updates 👍

Im going to run a 12v heater box instead as its more compact. The car will only be used for shows and some weekends so its not to big of a deal for me.

Bit more work done today, another blanking plate made. And a bit more progress done smoothing out the strut tower.
first time welding so still got a lot to learn.
trying to get as much practice in as i can along the way.

plates on strut tower cut down on both sides as im wanting them to be symmetrical on both sides when finished. Still needs a clean up and smooth down so its a even shape and no sharp edges.
2FF0C7CB-8868-4A65-8B64-3AA69346E55E.jpeg

Cut out the raised areas on the scuttle ready for blanks to be welded in so its a neat finish. (The a/c pipes have a temporary blank, its just to stop any s**t going through them before i get round to fully removing and blanking it off)
4739B0C3-14E4-432D-A540-B13B61C9A7D7.jpeg

And finally got rid off all the rust that was present in the bay. Mainly on the crash bar.

Mind smoothing my old 5 doors bay... pain in the dick. So was the wire tuck. Never fully finished it as I got bored.
You're doing well though.

Haha yeah i sent it in knowing full well they would hate it😂 I’d be stupid to think that they’d like it.
I just didn’t think it would make the thumbnail. It did the trick though as I’ve gained a lot more people following the build on my instagram now.
I watched the vid because of it  The build is mental, great to see something different

still got a bit more welding, grinding and smoothing to do, but you get the idea.
The bay is 80% done now.
had a put a hold to working on it for a while due to health reasons but im back and cracking on again.
making the most of this lockdown before i go back to work in april where i have no time to myself😂

Haha - looked at the picture and thought you had just covered it all up, was wondering what future maintenance was going to be like.
Yeah leaving it behind there would of just been a absolute pain.
i was going to do a ABS delete but i couldnt be bothered with the hassle. Made much more sense to keep the factory pump, just fab up custom lines and relocate it outside of the bay.

  clio campus sport1.2
All the welding in the bay is finally done now, few plates needed cutting out and welding in so i could get a form of curvature in the corner. I didnt get round to taking loads of pics as i just wanted to crack on and get everything welded in.

Went on to carry on with the fibreglass filler to skim over the area so i can get a nice flat finish.
59889459-15C7-4197-8231-4CC83C2ECB0A.jpeg

Still got a lot more skimming and sanding to do, but the for the time being this is where I'm at.

  clio campus sport1.2
Currently in the process of blocking out with 80grit. Whenever i next carry on with the bay i should be down to 300grit base once i fill in any pinholes and other little imperfections.

After waiting long enough, ive finally managed to get my hands on a unit. So i can actually have more room to work with on my builds. Before i get the clio ready for the move ive dialled in the rear height which im happy with now.
BEE7DD1A-2583-473B-8E14-D6936147E757.jpeg

started the chopping on the front arches so i can move onto the fab work.

Did some measurements and I’ve mocked up how the fronts should sit on 15’s but im still wanting to run a 16”

Its been a while since ive posted on here, i few little bits have happened since.
I finally got her on all fours and trailed over.
BF13E11F-9D9B-4B2B-A318-5B33A8DD4ACA.png

From there i thought id see how low it would actually sit on the back as its never had the full weight of the car on the rear end.
and i was very happy with the results.

Now it was in the unit i could finally start chopping up the front to get it sitting even with the back.
what a b*****d it is to get these cars low on the front😂.
Marked up where i wanted to cut out.

Using a grinder was taking way to long so i treated myself to a draper plasma cutter, everything was x100 easier from here.
D4E8A530-CA35-4EBA-A795-6FB62E539DBE.jpeg

I now have everything cut out, its just a case of cleaning up the edges, making templates and then transferring that over to 2mm mild steel and getting it welded in.

  clio campus sport1.2
Quick mock up with everything bolted on to get a idea of how it will sit height wise.
Im getting a new wheel set up, so once its all done i can finally start dialling in the fitment and get it sitting nice.
D85C8CD5-4E3D-4A7C-A973-899A04CD77FA.jpeg

  clio campus sport1.2
Yea, those strut towers never needed that extra metal anyway 😂

What plasma cutter did you buy? Like it?
Its all getting re enforced where its been cut out dont worry😂
And i got a draper 92454 25A plasma cutter, just under £300 and for the money you really can’t complain.
Its the first time ive ever used one, but it was very easy to use. After a few passes you get a feel for what works better position and amp wise.

I really like that. I’ve not seen lambo doors for years! Takes me back to buying Max Power as a teen.

There’s something great about this sort of modifying. It’s not something I’d own but the amount of graft that goes Into a build like this is pretty amazing. Looking forward to future updates.
