Re: someph-ing different...........
as mentioned the alternator is on the way...
and thanks to this member who seems to know his stuff it should help when fitting it
Good work, will bolt straight. Only problem i had was that on the original alternator there were two wires-one for the charge to the batt and one small wire for warning light on the dash.
So on original alternator(and assume yours will be the same) this means the rectifier is self powered (internally), not so on the laguna alternator. So its just a case of powering it with a 12v feed, that is only live on ignition-i.e as per stereo power etc. You can feed off somewhere in the fusebox,or splice into stereo feed etc, make sure it isn't a permanent live or you will drain the battery.
I can take some pics of my alternator in situe if needed, let me know. When looking for a belt-i ordered a laguna 1.8 8v non-aircon but with pas,as it has exactly the same belt run you will be using(again mk1 clio rsi with pas non-aircon will be same)
Hope this is clear and helps!
No worries, the ph1 elite need to be united!!
Ill have a go at some pics tomorrow(weather permitting!) Its straight forward really-I just got a little stumped when it wouldnt charge-as it needed the 12v feed. Front bumper off makes access a lot easier.
Surprising lack of info on cs, I thought it'd be a well trodden path but having searched around looks like people pay a fair bit of money for 'cup' set-ups. When you getting the alternator?
The conversion is worth the effort imo-my engine felt a lot keener and easier revving afterwards-particularly higher up the revs. Also got rid of the aircon compressor 'whine' and simplifies the aux set up so much-making belt changes etc much easier.
so from my shopping list before, after a day it looks like this
Cup Alternator - ordered
Oil Filter, Spark Plugs, Fuel Filter - ordering from gsf / euro car parts tomorrow
Gearbox Oil - to arrange
Oil - to arrange
Engine Mounts - looking at standard or Vibratechnics
Radiator - to order
done some good research today and spoke to a really useful guy at adrad.co.uk called andy, i gave him the specs of the current rad and then told him what i needed and why...
he was very helpful...i found out as follows
renault clio rad
540mm x 410mm (unsure on depth, somewhere between 28 / 36mm)
andy recommended part number VW321
a vw polo rad
625mm x 359mm x 32mm (deep), this looked good but the plugs were the wrong side, i had a good gander through other rads and found this
VW336 (another polo rad)
625mm x 359mm x 32xx (deep), i think this application would fit perfect for what i am thinking, the only thing i am worried about is the depth and if it will cool enough, or do i need to go thicker..)
