Re: someph-ing different...........

yeah mate, as long as all goes to plan now,
was a pain getting sold the wrong alternator, now i have a brand new alternator that doesn't fit ffs....and the guy who sold it to me has disappeared

Re: someph-ing different...........

I did read about that.

Worth seeing if a local specialist would take it off your hand ? You may loose a bit of coin, but would get most of it back ?

Re: someph-ing different...........

Alex might take the new one... he was prepared to take my bearings but they weren't genuine Renault (that's a story for another day!)

Hi bud,

Good news getting the alternator, it will fit for sure don't worry.

Apologies about the delay with the pictures, haven't had a chance to upload until now.

See pic below-odd angle but you get the idea! so the small wire closest to the front of the car(left one on pic)...is your warning lamp for the dash board. The next small black wire(middle position) is my 12v live on ignition feed-this is the one you will have to put in as original altenator does not have this. Far right(larger wire in black conduit) is the charge feed from the alternator back to the battery.

And another closer pic for clarity

Can you make these out ok?

Sounds as though you have already done a lot of the hard work-i.e pas pump and pipework. So fitting the laguna alternator should be easy enough. Hope this is of some help to you. Happy to help further if I can.

On a different subject... I have been thinking of late that some sort of PH1 register/sub-forum/independant forum (as per the trophy boys own forum) would be great to see. Haven't the foggiest idea how to go about something like that..but would be good to recognise the PH1 as it deserves. Obviously not to compete with cliosport, rather just a place for PH1 owners to visit and register.

When are you fitting your alternator? Have you binned the aircon fan blower unit (behind the scuttle panel i think). I would like to do this in the future as im guessing its a hefty bit of kit. Although im led to believe by Burps thread that this is one unit-therfore will effect the heater/blower aswell.

Let me know if you need any more pics etc.

Cheers
Lewis

Seriously?! :(

Anychance of you going down to a scrap yard or someone braking a ph1 172 and actaully taking it out yourself knowing what car it's from?

Re: someph-ing different...........

we need a 172 cup alternator, i have had enough tbh and think i am just going for a 172 cup alternator brand new from renault

phase 1 172 alternator came off
another of the same tried going back on (was sold it as 172 cup alternator - it was the same as previous)
this one was from a 1.8 8v laguna....

hope the 172 cup alternator will match the laguna mounts...

anyone?

Re: someph-ing different...........

ordered the above...

another load of money out my account, still have the mint one from before aswell still

turns out the powerflex bushes for the dogbone are wrong too, must be the later 172 / 182 one and not the phase 1 bushes

Re: someph-ing different...........

bushes wrong how?

mine are 182 powerflex ones in ph1 172 wishbones, not had any problems

Re: someph-ing different...........

172/182 bushes/wishbones are the same are they not??

I've got a 182 bottom arm and a ph-1 bottom arm in mine and its fine. They're the same! :S

Re: someph-ing different...........

yep, think one of the 182 ones has a diff part number to the others but apart from that they are the same im sure of it

Re: someph-ing different...........

they really don't look like they fit in....

they look massively wide and to thick to fit in the dogbone...

the powerflex bushes that should fit in the smaller end of the dogbone look massively wide compared to the size of the dogbone mount itself

any pics of them done anyone?

Re: someph-ing different...........

Jay_low had a problem like that ph-reebone, he took the hammer out and knocked an inner piece of metal out is seems to get them to fit

Re: someph-ing different...........

if you have the straight type dogbone (most likely being a ph1) then it's wrong, you need the yellow ones

if its the twisted type (i have heard of a few ph1's having it) then the purple ones are correct

altho i got the yellow ones for my straight dogbone and the smaller one still wouldn't fit, i've got it sat on my desk :(
