so another small update, it really feels like i go down to the car and don't achieve much sometimes...
I am now prepping the car for paint, this means i am getting all the fittings in and right before dismantling it all again, this way we know everything will work and we won't be re-drilling painted parts etc etc,
if you remember a little while back i bought some hockey pucks for the seat rails, well today sorting these would be my first job...
because of the nature of my super-low custom subframes there was a gap under the rear outer corner on both subframes, The galvanized rubber of a hockey puck would solve this (would act as a spacer and a cushioning one at that)...so
i took a puck at a time, marked it up to match the subframe and started cutting using a angle grinder and disc (there was almost fire)...
once i got it down tho the right shape i then set about getting it to the right thickness...
gob done, see how they fit, and then repeat for the opposite side...
other things i had to mark up were the holes i would need to drill to bolt the battery box down, and also the passenger side footrest...
battery box in position and marked behind the passenger seat
and then the footrest, (this needed a bit of shaping with the grinder again)
next up i wanted to see how the top dash was going to fit (this may be interesting to a fair few).
I thought it was going to need a fair bit of work, however i went through my box of screws and found out some nice long ones, i then placed the dash and propped it in position, to my amazement (and with a bit of convincing) the screws can go into the existing screw holes (plastic clips)... awesome, so no work here then... pics of the dash in.
pretty made up with my progress so far i then had to look at how the carbon (roof scoop) was going to mount, this is pretty much the last piece of the interior that needs to be sorted, i got it in and then was having a chat with my mate...
the idea was to cut it in half then mount it to the dash bar and the exhaust tunnel, i would then sink the heater controls and the few other controls including the lighter in it also from behind, we got increasingly concerned about being able to cut the piece and also cutting the holes, it is a very thin piece of carbon and is also very expensive, if it goes wrong i am screwed, I don't want something that is basically expensive scrap...
so i kind of have a few options....
1. try and make it work (may work, may not...its 50/50)
2. get rid of it and look at making another box somehow, keeping the heater, heater controls etc.
3. get rid and also get rid of the heater, then look for a heated windscreen etc...
opinions welcome...please
so with that now annoying me i stepped away and decided to re-route my battery cable, i have managed to tuck it in the sill, it goes in at the front of the footwell and then comes out in the rear passenger footwell (battery location) so it will be super tidy.
and last but no means least, a massive thanks to Conlon for sorting me with this lighter...
i spotted it in his thread and luckily when i pm'd him he knew exactly where to get one, so got it ordered and it arrived, spanks again mate, top bloke.
that will be getting sunk somewhere... dunno where lol
and i also thought that this really needs to be done at some point so when i left i chucked the full clio loom in the boot of the passat, this could possibly be next weekends stress relief...lol
thats it for today, my thoughts are all on the dash for now.....please all air opinions, info.... etc etc
