The GoPro Thread

Its great if you mount the camera somewhere thats a bit awkward to get to, so you can change settings etc.

The only problem is leaving the WiFi on munches the battery.

I want to start fiddling around doing some timelapse but I want to do some long ones (all nighters/24 hours) and the official cases that allow charging at the same time are stooooooooopid expensive (Frame is £40, Skeleton Housing is £50!), and the Hero3 is to new for there to be cheap damaged housings on eBay I can take a Dremel to :(

Anyone got any ideas? I want to be able to mount the camera on official mounts, and charge at the same time, but don't like the look of those dodgy cable hacks that some people have done.

Sorry, I meant I want to be able to charge it while in a case, I'm not worried about it being waterproof.

Basically I need a case with a hole in the side for the charging cable. The official ones are £LOL, and the Hero3 is too new for there to be cheap cases knocking about eBay I can butcher.

If you're not worried about it being watertight...butcher the one you have?

That's what I did for my microphone lead...have toyed with widening the hole further to take power as well but not got around to doing it yet.

Do you need to use the case for what you want to do? Get a spiderpodium or something similar and let it hold just the camera.

That might work. I've got the tripod mount and a Gorillapod, hence looking at proper cases, but I could just something like that.

Anyone know of a good deal on the 3 Black atm?

Looking around found it for around £280 on eBay, it screams dodgy but 140 people have bought it so maybe ok?

It's mainly for RC stuff, but may use it for car stuff!

Went offroading with my mate at the weekend. Dont know whats happened to the quality as it was shot in HD but not to worry!

I've been using the Cineform to put together timelapse videos but can't seem to put music to them? Imovie doesn't play the clips short enough to make a smooth video (1 photo per 10secs...).

Attached is my little effort from Gunhill beach at the weekend (about 3 hrs in the sun!). I'm also editing a video of a litte razz in my folks' MG Midget.. really struggle with apt. music choices though!!!

oh and when my Dad woke up, he thought we'd left him!!

Are you putting each pic into iMovie individually !? You can put each pic in for any length of time you like but uber-hassle when CF does it all for you.

Export it out of CineForm then dump that into iMovie....

CF has automatically 'stitched' them and I've exported it as a .mov yet imovie doesn't want to recognise/import it?
I also found that i cant go below 0.1s per image in imovie?

Love a bit of off roading :) I miss my little Suzuki SJ, used to have hours of fun in that!

Right, now with added music.. the quality isn't that great because it exported low res from Cineform but ah well... Staying in London this weekend so might try and do another one as i quite like'em. Especially EvilGiraffes' idea of filming everyday things...

Same place I got mine from Scutch, they were £6 cheaper last week though lol.

I was going to buy a Hero 2, but TBH the 3 was about the same price especially following that link.

Crazy.

Should come tomorrow. Not actually sure why I've bought one. Peer pressure I think. Nice to have.

Does it come with all the mounts to say, hook up to my car door or front/rear bumper, or will I have to buy those separate?

That's why I bought a Hero 2 from Argos. They had the motorsport edition for £170 I think it was with all the mounts etc - rather than a Hero 3 for a bit more, with no mounts...
