The REAL weight of FF air con setup, My latest weight saving....

  BMW 320d SE
Out of interest, what does the Volvo/Custom-made bracket do? Obviously the A/C pump is removed but why the need for a bracket?

P.S. I wasn't having a go earlier about removing the A/C, just saying that I quite like mine as it's my daily driver, so there's no point me removing it for the odd track day, but if yours never worked in the first place then fair enuff :)

by removing it i have lost 3 pulleys that the a/c setup has. compressor, lower idler and the auto tensioner pulley.

For those who are interested i will post details of what bits u need to do the conversion. Its gonna work out MUCH cheaper than a cup setup

;) :approve: did you use the 172 alternator then mate? have you got it to fit ok? or have you used a different alt?

bare minimum ftw (stole your pic beanie :D )
Tried the 172 alternator but it requires modding to line up with the bracket. even the the adjustment would not be ideal. Much easier to use a different alternator, which i have now and it fits perfectly
I would want the PS pump to be honest too lol!
Im still keeping the pas ;)

Just removing the ac pump is not really possible due to the belt routing. The best way is to use a different bracket that relocates the alternator, shortens the belt routing and looses the 'servicable' idler and tensioner. Making aux belt replacement cheaper too.

Cup set up is totaly ifferent from the ff set up

Good weightsaving

TBH I hardly ever use the AC on my car so could do without it but I think it would affect the resale value of the car if it wasn't there

It's not just 10kg lost. It's was a drain on the engine, and it's weight front right up front on the car - on a car as front end biased as the Clio, it'll be better loosing weight from there than the back. Let's also not forget that the damn thing didn't work properly anyway and it is a track car! Top work imo!

Think that the doubters have typed before engaging their brains imo. 10kg ving on a car that has been that stripped out already, all helps. Not difficult to understand really, especially when the a/c didn't work anyway! Bit of a no brainer! Why post about not many people caring? Loser!

That's where it all comes undone a bit...I always brim my tank before a trackday. I can't be arsed with spending 30 mins driving to a petrol station to top up for the sake of 15kgs of fuel.

Plus, with a full tank at the start, you build up to ending the day with the car as lean and light as possible :approve:

good work burp! as a track beast there is no need to lug around the extra weight of a/c. 10 to 15kg is plenty. and a few extra bhp for free by losing the a/c.

top job fella. saw you flying around at fcs

Soon ppl on ere will start going to weight watchers to make their cars go faster!

Can't wait to have a car where I don't have to remove little things like AC to make it go that bit faster...

Turbo power ftw.
