the man from Unkle - How you doing? long time no chat.

Drove the 225 trophy the other day fella. WOW...

CTR would beat a 225 round the track all day. not sure about the trophy tho - big improvement.

they could have done the same lap again and the clio could have won. There was NOTHING in it.

tiff shouldnt have tried to get the tail end out on that last bend.

  197-I love!!!

I said earlier that The CTR was characterless against the 182-Its OK looking but I found it clinical and characterless to drive-just hasnt got the spark of the 182-I think Clarkson described it as "Naughty little Puppy"!!!

dont know why everyone is saying he didnt get a superlicense for F1??

he actually raced in F1 in 1980 at the Belguim and Monaco Grand Prix

for the ill fated ensign team IIRC

He didnt get a superlicense - he was refused one by the FISA in 1979.

He did race at Zolder in place of Clay Regazzoni whod suffered a broken wrist and serious back injuries at Long Beach.

And before anyone chirps up - how can you race without a super license - its ok, Tiff was just qualifying from memory

he may of been refused in 1979 but i can catagorically say that he raced in F1 in 1980, the only reason he was denied a licence in 79 was the fact that he hadnt covered enough test miles at that time

Nope... I like them too, but then I did own one...

LOL @ this thread!

Some majorly defensive replies in here, its very amusing!

All Ill say is that while Ive yet to drive a CTR of any age, Ive played with one or two 182s, and as a renault employee COULD have a new one at a discount that might almost make it financially sensible.....but Im afraid I love my honda too much.;)

Im going to go and start a thread on a honda forum now, whiging about the driving ability of some random american journalist who once said the 2000 mustang gt was a better car than the Honda/Acura Integra Type R....:p

i don t doubt the ability of Tiff for a second, but he did say the ctr was a favorite of hes and he was on the power too early exiting the last bend spinning the182 hard, and hes line through the corner wasnt great + it was still only 0.2 sec behind. Most serious motoring mags (evo, driven etc) put the clio ahead as the best hot hatch avaliable. Or maybe they had already lined up a ctr to give away so the ctr had to win.

Tiff Needell nearly killed Nigel Mansell at Donington a few years back in 1993 at the ToCA Shootout

Quote by Tiff sometime later:

"My view is that I braked to avoid Mansell when he came whinging across the road in front of me, but if Id known hed blame me for the accident afterwards... Id have accelerated into him and done a proper job"

What a nice chap.

Tiff Needle is a top bloke and a top driver, ive taken sh*ts with more personality than Nigel Mansell, have no idea why anyone like that boring c**t..

Rather than regurgitating Googles words ill just paste them:

"A year later he achieved the ultimate status of Grand Prix Driver with a couple of outings for Team Ensign. Although only joining the team while they waited for Jan Lammers to be free from his commitment to another team Tiff’s results in a difficult car were every bit as good as the Dutchman’s.
Despite a great deal of interest in his services there were no Grand Prix seats free for 1981 so Tiff switched to Endurance Sportscar Racing to further his career and soon became established in that arena of motorsport."

Proof that F1 driving is about being at the right place at the right time as well as just ability..

I saw Lenny today funnily enough, hanging outside Barclays and muttering some nonsense to himself as usual. I wonder what his face looks like under that mass of hair, beard and shrubbery?

Whoa there Tom! I dont KNOW Lenny so to speak but i think it is fair to say that if you live in or around Enfield then its a fair bet you have heard of him. Saying that though he did try to once rob my sister of her pushbike many years ago and when she told him to F off he called her a b**ch so i guess i do have a tenuous link with our resident hermit.

Tiff or Clarkson in a fight?
I reckon Tiff,Clarksons jeans are too tight for him to move around.
Mind you,if the fat f**k catches Tiff with a lucky one,I reckon Tiffs going down !

Tiff has a lousy whiny voice and always plays second fiddle to Jeremy Clarkson. Woudnt mind being round Vicky though.

Real drivers car magazines (Car, Evo, Autocar) agree that the Clio 182 is the greatest hot hatch ever pound for pound. The CTR has numb steering looks like a milk/bread van and only delivers past 6000rpm.

The 182 connects you with the road massively all the time.

face it, tiff is an awesome driver - the respect he gets at nurburg is always a good indication of how good a driver is.

I was actually a little suprised by his handling opinion, but lets face it, clio is a girls car (i can get away with saying that now ive sold mine!!)...civics are for the big boys!!;)
