Top mount problems

I've just fitted my Apex front struts and the top mounts seem to be very 'unsecure'. It also make a big scraping noise when I go round corners. When I turn the wheels, the top mount turns with it and lifts up slightly. Pics of top mounts when on full lock:

As you can see they don't fit into the place they're supposed to, which is quite bad. Any ideas where I've gone wrong?

Cheers.

is it on both sides mate cos it happened to me on one side and we just changed the things around and it sat much better ever had any bother since

hav you got any pics of how low it is now

edit my wasnt as bad as that only a few mm

Both sides yeah, it's only that big when I turn it on full lock though.

I'll get some pics once this problem has sorted and I've driven over a few speedbumps :rasp:

Why won't they just screw all the way down though?

Any idea where I can get washers/solid mounts mate? I am clueless when it comes to stuff like this... cheers.

solid mounts are a fortune. as for washers there was a guy making them on here and selling a set for £6

trouble is with the washers that sometimes they dont cure the problem
100%, On standard suspension i beleive the inserts are sometimes slightly too long hence why it wont pull completely tight.

^ thats my understanding anyway and dont quote me on it as im not completely sure

Will they be okay if I manage to make them go a bit lower? It's just the noise when cornering that s***s me up!

Im not sure tbh, Im fed up of the noise as it does effect your confidence, I wont put the car on full lock either.

Ast topmounts ordered from kam racing, fingers crossed.

My Clio also has a slight knocking sound coming from what I believe are the top mounts...only 18k :(
it only appears over rough roads, specially uphills...

group buy for the win ;)

jamie, look in the for sale section at the moment, i put up a top mounts group buy from KAM racing.

150 is a lot of money, but for the piece of mind that i will no longer drift in and out of lanes having had my suspension fitted, it is a small price to pay !!

i get a nocking when i go over a small pop hole and it sounds like its a massive one could this be the same problem

lol @ "pop holes"

yeah could well be lad, but tbh, my suggestion is that it is just a renault, so any creaks and noises will have been worsened by lowering the car :(

lol, you muppets the top part of the top mount is not supposed to be flush with the panel, they will change their height depending on steering lock it's perfectly normal.

What's making the proper loud noise then? Can someone take pics of theirs that are normal so I can compare how much mine's stuck up with theirs?

Please? :D

how do you know? you dont do renaults, only zee germans iirc ;)

When I screw mine as far as they will go, they stick up approximately just under a centimetre from the base they should be flush with.

Is this a problem with my suspension then? The top mounts were fine on my standard struts, since I changed them to Apex they've started doing this.

Air gunning the fucker up will only f**k the mount. The top half is nylock and it's only purpose is stopping the damper falling out of the body when the front end unweights (air over a hump back bridge etc) rest of the time the weight of the car is acting down on the bottom part. So as I said no need to wind it up FT with a scaffold pole or airgun. ;)

no but air over hump back bridges might ;)

sorry scott, i am not being helpful but in a bored/silly mood at work!

Is it a problem with the suspension or my top mounts? As said the top mounts were fine before I took them off my old struts...

Cheers for all the help btw, just want to get to the bottom of this!
