Not really posted much on here guys but thought i'd share our clio we have been messing with over the past year or so. This is a joint venture and its a 3rd car for us both so costings of everything was tried to be a little as possible.

We picked up an accident damaged Clio 182 on a 54 plate, she had had a front end but the money was right so she was delivered a few days later.

Oddly dont have any pictures of it as it arrived doh! but here it is with its new headlights in and stripped down

Got hold of 2 wings, bonnet bumper and grill

Off she went for a few days for paint and came home looking like a car again!

We then tackled the mechnical side of things anything damaged was replaced, then she was put on the road for us to do some miles on her before the up and coming ring trip!

All was well and off she went to the ring Jully '10 totally standard. drove there was driven hard for 2 days around the ring by everyone and drove home! the only casualty being the exhaust. It has come off its mounting due to rusting away and was blowing quite bad! a bit of a repair job with some coat hangers at the hotel in germany saw few more laps and us home again. (note our jack!)

What can i say car perfomred excellently! was shocked at how well she held the track considering i had also taken my 400 bhp evo over there the clio was much more fun on the track!

couple of pics of our group on the track

We had got the track bug off home we went in search of a track day but not before sorting the exhaust out. We opted for a Scorpion 192 system with decat

It sounded great and a quick check on a friends DB meter looked good!

We booked oulton park as its local to us on the 4th of august off we went! Few snaps of the day

again car was very good fun, but we managed to cook the brakes a few times. We changed the fluid for fresh stuff and fitted Ds2500's in preperation for the next day

Our next mod was a set of 172 alloys black with A048 tyres, and off to our next day we went "donnington 11th September"

Was wet at first and car fealt very slippy with the A048's on, luckily it dried up in the day and the tyres were excellent after that! We could feel the car rolling around on the suspension as a result and new that was our next step

The brakes were so good now! we could stamp on them very very late, impressive mod they were!

That was pretty much the last action she saw in 2010 and was put in the garage over winter to rest.

Our first outing of 2011 was "Anglesey 2nd May" and we wanted some new stuff for then!

We purchased:

Brembo HC Discs (we cooked the last ones at donnington)
GAZ Coilovers
2nd Hand Bucket seats and harnesess
Front and rear strut braces (removed the rear seats to fit the seatbelts)

New oil and filter went in, and then we decided to change the look of silver for a bit meaner stance and started to vinyl wrap it matt black! Some pics of our bank holiday weekend preping the car

Sadly we ran out of time as the wrapping is very hard! so the car went to anglesey half silver/black!

The car was transformed it was very planted on track and was showing up lots of faster cars out there, the turn in spot on but we had only guessed at the setup and the rear was a little boucny but not the end of the world! we managed to kill the rear wheel bearings on the day it got is home but they are very noisey! only a pic from my phone at the min of the day

IMG_0217.jpg IMG_0216.jpg

Our next outing is going to be oulton park 10th of june if the car is ready. Plans are to fit 2 new bearings to the rear finish the wrapping set ride height up a bit as the rear was a bit low i think! and go from there!

Very good fun for not much money they are, i happily leave the evo at home for the track days ;)

Re: Track Car Nurburgeing Toy

its just over a week till our next day and plan is to finish the wrapping by then weather permitting!

We remaped the car with the RS Tunner all went well but havent really tested it as the car isnt insured at the moment.

We started changing the rear discs/bearings at the weekend, passenger side went fine. When we came to the drivers side it was wrecked! the bearing is split right the way through:eek:

bearing.JPG

More worrying was the fact the spacer that sits behind the bearing didnt seem to be there!? its not stuck in the disc, on the stub axel or in bits its just not there, but the wheel used to sit properly and not wobble etc?

We were hoping to sort some camber bolts, shims and wheel spacers for the next outing but time and money are saying no at the min. We have raised the rear up a few MM also.

Spacer is due tomorrow and will be fitted friday to get her back rolling again. Hopefully she will see Oulton Park in one colour :)

Roll on the 10th

Ring Trip is also booked on the 1st July so hope to have all niggles sorted for then.

Plan to try and finish over the next week ready for the 11th!

Re: Track Car Nurburgeing Toy

I love the amount of care that has gone into this car, the little tweaks after each track etc, i don't know what other people think but that matt vinyl looks sweet as man, i thought you were going to wreck the beauty of the 182 but it looks amazing - Great Job

Re: Track Car Nurburgeing Toy

cheers :) it does look very good in person dont get me wrong we arent the best vinyl wrapping people out there by far ha! but getting better as we go. IF there's any left over at the end we may re do some pannels maybe :)

next task is wheel spacers and some camber!

Looks great dude. Haven't actually seen a matt black 182. So should be cool.

Not sure on the coilovers though. Gaz?

Looking nice mate. I was speaking to caffery about your car the other day when I picked his spare engine up. Where do you get your wrap from? I've got a few things that I wouldn't mind wrapping myself, but haven't found a decent place to get it from at a reasonable price.

Re: Track Car Nurburgeing Toy

cheers mate, the pics do make it look better trust me! the rear bumper we did last night is quite good as is the roof and bonnet. front wings could do with redoing as its a little discoloured i think?

http://www.mdpsupplies.co.uk/vehiclewrapping.asp is where we got it from i think it was around £180 for 20 metres and is 1.2m wide.

coil overs as gaz yes i know they are the cheaper end but this is a 3rd car so cannot justify spending big money on things for the odd track day. to be honest they were excellent on the last track day!

caffery mentioned someone had his old engine the other day! it seamed a good engine until cambelt went well worth a rebuild if thats your plans :) wrapping is harder than it looks id say, but like anything practice has made us do an ok job! it gets hard as you hit bumper edges and things where there are curves both way.

sorry it was 156 delivered and is 1.5 metres wide can be bought per metre if you just wanted to try on a bonnet or something?

That's not a bad price.

Yeah I ripped the engine apart the other day. All the inlet valves are fucked.lol. It was the bottom end which I needed, so fortunately the bores are all good. I'm getting it cleaned up at the moment for a rebuild, but my old head is going on it. Nice to have a few spares though :)

Re: Track Car Nurburgeing Toy

Update, did Oulton Park Friday this week car was spot on all day and was punished as usual! havent had time sadly to finish the wrap so looks very odd but was showing a good few cars up on friday! i was doing 2.11 laps no idea if this is good or bad but was very good fun! There were a couple of other clios there, williams a blue 182 with grey bumpers 197 and a blue 182. still seem to suffer from track day snobbery though no one likes to move over for a clio it seems!?

Found that at knockhill at the weekend. No matter how many laps you are up an elises arse it wont move over to let you pass.

LOL, get used to it...it seems they have some kind of invisible field at times! No one acknowledges or moves...I've become a bit more aggressive when trying to pass these days, always safe and never reckless though...as I didn't pay £300 for a day to drive no faster on a track than I do on the roads!!!

I like the wrap. Can you do Mondial Blue?

Re: Track Car Nurburgeing Toy

here are the colours they supply

http://www.mdpsupplies.co.uk/vehiclewrappingvws1.asp

i have recently spoken to a friend of a friend and he's a vinyl wrapper i think his stuff sounds better than our stuff though so wouldnt really like to recommend these as yet!

we had a few exiges doing same thing on the track im not saying our car is faster etc but we were faster and passed him with ease on my first 2 outings but the 3rd he decided he didnt want to move over nor did the super 7 things! as you say i have started with more agression in passing now and seams to work well. No one i passed was back on me so the fact i pulled away means its faster over a lap surely!

i thought a half black/silver car would make some people move;)

This is the exact reason I started running loud coloured wheels...once you've been sat up their ar*e for a session they might remember when you come into their rear-view again. Doesn't work though. Nothing does except a late lunge at the appropriate time!

Re: Track Car Nurburgeing Toy

Few weeks on and we are in the middle of preping to go to the ring on friday! Brother is going to drive it there and im taking my evo 8 and a few other mates in their cars.

We bought some rear camber shims and front camber bolts, and some hub centric spacers. Sadly the rear spacers are too much so ive just removed them for the time being and probably look at 15mm ones. the 25mm up front are perfect though!

we have some A048's due as the edge of the old ones are just about done with now. Have done a bit more vinyl wrapping - note the links i have provided and used its just not very good vinyl for cars! we bought a couple of meters locally and it was night and day difference the new stuff goes on perfectly! more expensive but worthit. we just have drivers door to do and could do with redoing rear quater but hopefully all done for friday.

Few pics from the weekend. the bodykit is going black we think but unsure on the rest still. Tyres changed, having the tracking done again and off we go friday 6am. The evo just needs a wash much easier to maintain!

Re: Track Car Nurburgeing Toy

another project thunder local how rude! to be fair she isnt used on the road very much and is about to come off the road and on a trailer full time i think! its currently sat in my front garden. The plans where to wrap the full car including silver bits we just ran out of time so its not 100% finished yet. i have just had major surgery on my knee so things are on hold for the min.

We had to remove the rear spacers for the time being it was catching a little, so we have put some 225 A048's on the rear for the ring trip we just did, those with the extra camber made the rear feel very very planted! fronts still have spacers on they are fine but we maybe putting 225 up front too or been offered a load of 15" avon slicks so may change to 15's and use them if the track days will allow!

We go to the ring fine 1200 mile round trip for us, and the clio put in 14 laps over the weekend at full chat and was flawless again used half litre of oil all weekend and got driven hard!

Here we are at the services on route

here's a vid of my first lap, lots of yellows and not knowing the track lol

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XP7opGgLUCc

this one is me in my evo following brother in the clio, dangerous as he nearly has a few offs!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6y-Vn-tHDg0

the car is just stupid at the minute very impressive, we were on the auto bahns following the clio at a speedo indicated 145 i know this isnt accurate etc but last year it took an age to get her up to 120! 145 happened quite quickly really!

We plan to take it off the road now, strip it cage it. 15" wheels and slicks maybe some more camber up front as the front wasnt as grippy as i had liked. All in all very impressed with how it copes with other more expensive cars ;)

A 172 caged up Cup. Green cage and wheels!

I think i saw a video the other day of your car going pretty wide at Brunnchen, iirc it looked like a brown pant moment.

NorthloopCup

ClioSport Moderator
Yeah that was me! Came into Brunnchen on 3/4's full lock due to oil off a E36 bmw!! Got it straightened out but went on to the rumble strip. Not so much a brown pants moment, but shall we say "interesting" lol!

Coincedently the guy in the E36 carried on driving on the track in a bid to save himself the 180 euro recovery charge, which in turn closed the track so they could clean the oil up, so he got charged for the time the track was shut!!!!!!!! Which is significantly more than 180 euros!! Legend.

  TrackCar & F30 330d
Yeah understeer like that is never a nice feeling. But i'm sure you must have had your fair share of scrary moments at the Ring with the number of laps you must have done!
