Trophy #229: The Diary

  172 Cup
Good stuff dude, Will in the past i have found that decat's free up the rev's alittle more and give you a bit more poke top end of the rev range but the low & mid range torque is greater with the cat on making day to day driving better.

  Megane 225 F1
Oh I see. I don't drive mine daily as I car share to work so I drive it every 4 weeks. The rest of the time it's just to go see friends and family and then for fun. I like my decat. Especially as it's got an RS tuner map on it now. Makes the idle a lot better which to me was the only bit I didn't like about my decat.

  Fiesta ST-3
Fair play Mike you have bought this up to scratch. I look forward to seeing this progress. Really tidy motor now.

Looking good Mike!

You sorted that front left speaker?
I got a new head unit yesterday and noticed that Ste had put new speakers in (front and back). Nice of him :)

Not sorted it yet no, I meant to do it today but got called out to work during all the daylight hours.

I think it may be just the loom at the back of the stereo not clipped in properly, but going to rip the speakers out and check they are ok at the same time.

Brakes are next, after the whitby run its metal on metal every time I brake

Expensive day!

Took the car to renault this morning to have the bonnet checked and a check sheet done.

Came back with knackered track rod end and lower ball joint on one side. Got the TRE's from a local renault specialist and ordered a pair of ball joints from Mark Fish. I knew about this before I bought the car as it was an advisory last year.

The reason for ringing Mark Fish was they found I had a leaky rear shock, and what a nice and helpful guy Mark is! I haven't gone for the MF setup but I mentioned the ball joints and he had 2 in stock for a good price so I had them!

The shocks, well, Renault assured me they were the right ones to order at £60 each, but I knew something wasn't right. Found the part number and bam, £140! Had a scout about on the internet and the Koni's MF sells are only £100 from tweaks (obviously these are before Mark has fettled with them), so ordered a pair and got free delivery, in stock too :)

The reason for deciding against the MF setup is I aren't going to be changing to his springs as I simply won't get the value from it.

So, nearly £300 down, but at least it will all be good and right when its sorted!

Have you got a link to them koni's?

Have your front dampers been done/unpinned? Should make a massive difference if one has leaked.

My Konis came today :)

But, you order these is singles, yet they came in just one box (not that I'm fussed) but with only one adjuster knob thingy. Are demon tweeks stealing them? Surely if I had ordered one at a time I'd of got 2 knob things :S

I have also fixed me speakers, well it turned out to be a loose wire at the back of the HU so easy fix. And the boot trim was hanging off at one side, so took it off and clipped it back on properly, all good now :D

Little update.

Only picture I have is the polarised wheel bolts, which I finished fitting today :)
The car is incredibly dirty with the snow.

But I've been busy.

With the help on my uncle once again, and his pit, we have fitted the front HC's with DS2500's, the new rear mintex pads and discs, and a full fluid flush. Done the track rod ends and ball joints too.

Also got my rear koni's on, fitted with the help of Steve f over on clio trophy. No knocking! The rear definitely feels stiffer, but due to the bad weather I haven't tested them out yet.

Unfortunately another fault has been found, rear N/S caliper wont work on the handbrake, mechanism is broken. Managed to acquire another so that is being fitted tomorrow.

I also have a post cat lambda that doesn't work, I need a new one of them but its not affecting me as I can just reset the light and its good for a month.

I've also bought some detailing kit, so it'll be getting some special treatment soon, maybe as soon as during the week if the weather is as good as it's supposed to be!

Then its MOT time in March, lucky me!

Good job. Keep up the good work.

Handbrake has broke from all those handbrake turns you've been doing in McDonalds carparks you chav.

Impressive read, lovely looking car. Makes me regret going LY over trophy!!!

Where did you get the wheel bolts from? Really want some to tidy mine up.

now thats lovely, looks great.

Cheers Dawn :)

Swap for a battle-scar'd Saxo mate? Lol

Sure, plus £5k my way ;)

I used trays though :S

Want to buy some braided brake lines Michael?

Unfortunately not mate, I'm fine with the standard parts atm, I'm sick of doing the brakes. Will be the 4th time we have looked at them tonight which is enough for me!

I do really like LY tbh, I wouldn't regret it mate :)

I got them from the group buy section on here.

Took it in for alignment this morning, steering has been way out since doing the TRE's. They fit my camber bolts at the same time.

Thats pretty much it now, its got a year tax today and MOT is booked for 2 weeks time which it should fly through. I just need a nice day to give it a detail now

Where did you go Mike, Allcar in Huddersfield?

The clunge-mobile needs it's tracking done BIGTIME!

Yeh, they've done a good job tbf. I was a little disappointed last time but this time I'm satisfied.

Does it drive better now Mike?

Need mine doing really.

A hell of a lot better, but it was pretty bad before. I think its normally £45 for it doing, but it cost me a bit more as they were doing it for 2 hours solid, most of that time was removing the old seized up bolts from the strut.

Little update.

Car had it's MOT last month, which it failed badly on emissions. Luckily I had a new lambda to replace the post cat one that got damaged when refitting my cat, stuck that in the pre cat slot and happy day, all emissions as normal. Flew through the rest of the MOT, the tester had a 182 too and was pretty impressed with the condition of the T, loved the seats

I've since bought a roof rack and a bike carrier, and borrowed a bike carrier. So I can get back into biking again this year :)

Then the other day I realised I go to Europe in less than 4 weeks! So needed to get the car sorted for that. Added my mate onto the insurance, £25 bargain! Bought another lambda so I can actually replace the damaged rear one and get rid of that pesky engine light. I'm going to order new oil and filter, plus both air filters, might do plugs too if I'm feeling flush ;)

I also got myself a nice new set of plates. The current plates were branded up, and wanted a smaller front again. Also stuck on instead of ugly screws :dead:

Front After

I wouldn't normally do the rear but they were branded, and the holes for the screws were drilled in the wrong place, so the plate stuck out :(

Hopefully I'll have another couple of updates before I go :approve:

Long time no update.

After the alignment last time I still wasn't totally happy, so took it to another place who sorted it. I also suspected one of the dampers was going soft, but they had a look and said it seemed fine.

So then I took it to Europe.

We went France - Switzerland - Italy - Switzerland - Germany

A few pics below:

Mmmmmm Steak on a stone!

Then today I noticed the steering out again, had a press on the front shockers and one is still stiff as it should be, the other very soft. And the side that was soft appeared to have dropped slightly too.

So today I took the shocks off and have taken them to a local specialist to be dyno'd and if required refurbished, the drivers side will definitely need doing! Thanks to Timps for a hand with removing and a lift to take them in :)

The dirty sachs in situ:

And how the car stands atm :dapprove:

I have however bought some Eibach Sportline springs to get on when the sachs come back, and while the suspension is off I'm going to paint the callipers and clean the arches, well maybe.

  RS2'd Trophy
Jenic that is hard luck about the sachs, I was fortunate not to have to have mine refurbed, but I think we need to meet up so you can honesty see the difference between the AST's and the sachs. That may just sway you against rushing to get them refurbished.

When are we having that picture sesh?

I'm just getting the sachs done mate, I don't need AST suspension for what I use the car for.

Soon, although I've been saying that for ages, just always seem to have something on!

The trophy sachs are awesome they really really are! Best fun road setup IMO.

Ill pm you on facebook over the next couple of days, will have to be post lemans now though.

Have they given you a date for your sachs returning?

No date yet, I am hoping it's sooner rather than later but post Le Mans works for me too :)

  RS2'd Trophy
Awesome.

Are you at Lemans this year by any chance? I know whitely and those guys are heading over thats all.

James

The exact same thing has just happened to my front damper too. :dapprove: let us know how you get on mate.

Today these came from Kam Racing :approve:

Excellent service from Kam as always!

I have also cleaned up the front callipers and painted them black, looks so much tidier now :)

Can't wait to get it all back together, I called the place who are doing my Sachs refurb and they were on with it when I rang them, should get an update tomorrow and an estimated date for them to be returned. Might be a little longer than I would of liked due to sourcing any parts they need from BG/Sachs.
