Trophy Prices To Double ?

I think it very much depends on the classic car trend as a whole. I think many of the naysayers here are probably saying exactly the same thing as people would have said about the 5GTT, 205 GTI, Escort RS Turbo etc, and values of those have rocketed.

Not really, the Trophy is a slightly better version of an popular hot hatch.
It doesn't really add much to the experience so most of the value is derived from it's limited availability.

To be honest I think the price difference already is abit excessive so there could be downward motion as well.

The V6 prices will probably go through the roof though.

As much as I adore my Trophy (and the Trophy in general) I can't see it appreciating that well. Admittedly, mine will never appreciate after all the work it's had done on it, but I just don't see how Trophy prices could potentially double. I hope they do, though! :)

In much the same way as an RS1600i was a slightly better version of an XR3? Or that a Mexico was a slightly better version of a 1600 GT? And, as I said, most people, 20 years ago, would have said "Oh, they'll never be worth anything, they're just tarted up base model Escorts" How much is a good Mexico worth now?

I agree with you, I think the excessive price they command currently won't help their percentage increase, and they may dip slightly but, in the end, they will go up. I don't think it will be within ten years, but judging by the cost of a lot of 20-30 year old hot hatches, and assuming the classic car trend doesn't collapse, there is every chance they could increase, without even mentioning good ol' inflation.

The V6 will always be the most expensive, but all hot hatches appreciate eventually.

if S1 prices are anything to go by you won't need a pension when you retire

Could buy 2 Trophys for the price of this LOL
I have no idea why but we are thinking a lot about a Fiesta RS Turbo in red also

If your buying any car to

A. Not use it often enough, for what it was actually intended for.

B. To sit on that unused car with the only intention of selling it to make a profit.

These poor cars are wasted on those individuals!

I'm all for maintaining a car and looking after it to best of my own skills and indeed financial abilities, but you need to draw a line under common sense somewhere!

My Trophy is going up for sale in January as I'm finally taking the plunge, and buying the series one Lotus Elise I've always wanted!

It will however be sorely missed.

The 205 GTI took almost 25 years to really show an increase in value. And now you can buy a half decent example for not a lot of money. An average Escort RS Turbo increased much more in recent years than a 205. The Ford badge plays a big part in this.

There is a silver s1 Elise on eBay with a 2l Duratorq conversion! Looks good.

Just lol at comparing Ford to Renault, it doesn't matter if they're the greatest car ever made, you can't do anything about the classic Ford Market.

Use the Trophy money and buy a Fiesta RS Turbo and wait 10 years... see the difference.

I reckon a few standard ones will be worth a few quid but not crazy values.

And theres less of those by the day. Which, I guess, is only accelerating the possibility of low-mile, stock cars becoming less worthless.

An article on the official RenaultSport website saying they could double in price, well yeah kinda says it all doesn't it...

lol.
"Hey, our cheap hatchbacks are going to be worth double what they are now, honest (please, someone care)."

In fairness, the 1*2's were the last bastion of decent hot hatches.....when they weren't collapsing themselves, or being "enhanced" by "enthusiasts"

They were the last of the 'old school' style of hot hatch, a small car with a big engine.

I'm quite liking the new direction of turbo'd ones now though.

I actually said that they might not achieve the same values as some other cars, or the same % increase due to the slightly excessive current values, and that it won't happen within the next ten years, but I think, eventually, there will be some increase in value. The Fords were just random examples plucked out of the air, not a statement that the Trophy will do the same.

At the end of the day, a car is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it, so who knows what will happen.

That could be an influencing factor, definitely the last of the breed before the fatter, heavier, turbo cars took over.

This.
You could make a fortune on most classic cars IF you can find that one person who wants what you've got.

What about mint spec clio where do we see prices going for them...
Lawros one was priced high and sold
Phase1sr priced high and sold
There is a black gold 182 with all trophy bits thats priced high if that sells then surely a good mint clio will also sell for good money
I ask this because if I can get hold of some sachs dampers (pipe dream) mine has all the bits of a trophy dampers seats spoilers and turinis if I made the car mint and showed all its service history what kind of price can you expect to see its close to 150k and 10 owners?
I personally think people will set out to low mileage low owners in the future regardless of service history, in 10 years the trophy should have theoretically had 4 cambelt changes. Are people going to pay to have thier belts done every 2k miles? (5 years) to keep the mileage down.

The relevence being??

You made a not very accurate point with a poor comparison.

On that note, ex Renault formula cars are 10m.

Point being the trophy isn't in the same league as a 5 turbo which isn't in the same league as the GT40, its all comparable, it's about how special they were in the first place, the trophys just weren't special enough.

oh those ones, much more in common with the Clio V6 than the Trophy though.
I always thought they were called the Gordini or something? or was that something else?
