Turbo Clio by KTEC preferably

  GT 86
After much indecision I have concluded that a modified clio turbo would be preference for my next step into the clio scene.
If anyone has a nice example please let me know as I would be interested. I have mentioned KTEC as I know this company to be well respected however I would consider other reputable specialists. Thanks in Advance

Did you go and look at the V6 in Oxton I posted you the link to ?? just curious if it was any good.

Where can I see it in action? EPIC mate..

I'll be at combe on the 27th april is my next trackday, then normally a few month through the summer although probably be less this year as trying to move house at the moment and got a lot to sort out.

Moving house is a nightmare, don't envy you that.. I think I'll take my van into birchwood they've been recommended and let them look over it and offer some suggestions.. Might be a good base to work from..
if you see a good one that you don't want yourself I'd appreciate a heads up..

Going halfway across the country and taking garages full of compressor and airtools and half a dozen cars and probably 100 spare wheels and tyres etc and god knows how many engines and other bits makes it even worse than normal sadly :(
Plus the chain we are in seems to be moving slowly, so I dont know yet when its all happening which is why I cant make many trackday plans in advance as I could be moving in may or june or later or not at all, just dont know yet!

can i remind everyone this is the marketplace...

Some quite useful chat about turbo conversion and prices and stuff in here, maybe it would be best if the thread was moved to somewhere that chat can carry on and he can start a new one just as a wanted ad again if he is still looking (although sounds more like he needs to do more research first anyway?)

Agreed definitely need some more research.. You wouldn't recommend the 02 KTEC then, was contemplating a drive down South..

I would personally only recommend KTEC for what they are good at, which in my experience of them (relatively limited, others may have different experiences) is just mail order.

the jc5 box limits this

Only the ph2 one, the ph1 one has a taller diff so quite a few more MPH available (about 5% so roughly 7mph more if you can do 150 on the ph2 box), then its a case of bigger wheels or more rpm if you want to go faster, I went for the more rpm, lol

My mrs car can do 7500rpm in fifth (ie max the gearing out with most people's rev limiter) and thats probably just under 200bhp, but it takes a long straight to do it!

Its ok Andy, its been moved now mate.

The VAG ratios seem quite well suited, but TBH the Ph1 ones arent terrible either.

Mine is doing 100mph at 4500rpm, and 150mph at 6750rpm which is more than I need on any uk track. And at 7800rpm its doing 173mph.

Been up knocking on the door of 170 once or twice on the old engine, but its not good for the engine to hold it flat for that long so doubt I will on the new engine, it pulls very nicely indeed to 150mph or so though, can do that in quite a small space, like straights on trackdays I mean :)

You are in a fairly exclusive club to have had the chance to come out in at bedford and turned it down, everyone else jumped at the chance TBH

RS2 is an engine modification. It's a air intake/plenum chamber which bolts onto the front of the engine an does away with the original intake manifold. Once mapped it can give a linear torque curve which is great for track and fast road use.

There's a group buy currently for them in the traders section. Under S & MWM.

I'm sure chip or someone else could explain it all better and more in depth :)

Rs2 makes the Clio 172 a bit quicker and IMHO a fair bit nicer to drive. Nice upgrade for a fast road car but its no turbo substitute.
We have one 172 rs2 and one 172 turbo and its not even close. I do love driving both though in different ways.

He had 300bhp under 4k and still has it at 6k so change up at 6k and you would never have under 300bhp

It does die off a lot at top end though. 200bhp only by 6500.

Not denying the power, just that it comes in a whacking great big lump in the middle of the rev range. Prime example is your own car, Chip, which is a far more progressive and linear delivery. I'd imagine that's much more fun to drive as there is still a small incentive to "chase" revs.

Yes I agree. If I had that 385 bhp car I'd map it properly to hold onto the power longer and lose a chunk of the midrange torque too probably as over 400 seems a bit excessive. Ok in fifth though I'm sure. In fact at 70mph in fifth and floor it I bet it pulls amazingly till 120 or so.

Don't get me wrong a RS2 is a far way of a turbo build.

IMO a RS2 is the one for him, unless he has deep pockets and knows his way around a engine rebuild. Chip if I remember rightly I can remember you saying a turbo will need a rebuild around every 30-40k? Or is that just your preference. I could be mistaken however.

That ktec one has done 15k since it was built, I think it will need more money spending on it again so enough.

Any forged engine lasts less time than a standard one yes mate. So that's halfway through its life really at 15k unless its been all long journeys. Cold starts wear them more than a standard engine due to bigger clearances.
