Turn your 172 into a Cup

Dont know if anyone has done this but by removing the back seats and the spare wheel in your 172, you should lose about 80kg

172 - 80kg = cup

Performance is loads better 0-60 in about 6.6s

Back end is lighter so you can get the a#se end to slide abit too.

Roamer has no interior in his and buckets.

Most of us have had the spare and the rear seats out at some time or another, usually for the quarter mile.

although from people having had alot of accidents recently perhaps removing more weight from the rear might be better saved for when the roads are less salty/icy/greasy/wet

Thats not going to help them gain common sense when driving on slippery roads though.

But with ABS and ESP we should be OK!!!!
Neither of these should come into action unless you cant control your own car or you are deliberately driving like a loon.

very true. I used to be a driving instructor and have done several road craft days with an ex police driving instructor so i think i am fairly sensible

Rear seats plus the spare adds upto about 40kgs, nothing more, changing seats can save another say 15-20kgs max.... nowhere near 80kgs though.....

Didnt realise you guys had gone into so much detail. Not long joined the forum but looks like you were aware of it ages ago. Fair play to you Roamer for weighing all the bits.

Dont forget us Cup owners can strip our cars as well, ill be running totally stripped this summer(y) (calm down ladies)

Nah, weve already had all the stuff stripped out and weighed from a 172, and theres no way you can save the 89kg to get the kerb weight down to that of a Cup.

Only saves about 40kg (ish) IIRC by removing spare wheel, rear seats, shelf, jack, etc...

Will deffo improve things though!

Ive started my diet already so that should shift a few pounds!!!!:D
LOL

It sounds daft, but it actually makes a lot of sense...

I know of one ClioSporter that went on the Atkins diet already!!!

So you think your back seat weighs in at around 60 KG

Not likely.

The cup had to remove a lot more than the wheel as we all know including having thinner glass etc

Just out of curiousity I weighed a uniroyal rainsport tyre.. brand new it weighs 7.7 KG  That means a standard 172 alloy should weigh about 8KGs .. sound about right ?

just buy a 182,there just as quick and then take your interior out of that and if youve got stipes thats 10 bhp over standard anyway so its bound to be quicker

(i can hear a tsunami approaching fast)lol
