Tyres... Points of View

  172 Cup

Hi everyone ! Common topic I know, but that time has come for me to purchase tyres. A man who buys poor tyres is asking for trouble. The exisiting continentals are still from New and have done 22500 miles. Not too bad i reckon, infact excellent. However thy worning legal limit is near. If possible just other peoples thought on tyres with more grip and better life etc... Cheers.

Ive got Eagle F1s, and am just about to get some more.

Love them.

Heard good things about PE2s, but Ill stick with F1s, better the devil you know (or something like that)

Thankyou very much sir ! Now to pick your brain again, the best price availiable? Any online websites with deals or offers at the moment. Im finding between £70 to £80 pound a corner only delievered for those PE2s.

I'd stick with the conti's mate, they've never put a wheel wrong with me, but i work at a renault garage and can get them for £40 a corner.

  LOTS!
I got Toyo Proxes on my OZ's when I bought them - took about 800 miles to wear-in but cracking once they have. T1-s I think they are. Seem to be wearing down quite quick though!

id steer clear of the toyo proxes if you are doing lots of miles, mine wore down really quickly comapred with the continentals i had on before.
i know there old but i still like Pirreli P6000, Eagle F1`s are good too.

my next tyres for the Cup will be rainsports as of course the cup is potencialy at risk in the wet due to light weight, no abs and nop tcs. but they also grip really well in the dry and are good for track use aswell.

If I didn't have an uncle that works for Pirelli and gets me 1/2 price tyres, then I'd definitely get Eagle F1's. Had em on my old Pug306 and they were awesome!!

Currently running P Zero Nero's. They're not bad, nothing to write home about. Nowhere near as good as the F1's.

I just ordered two more F1s from mytyres, £55.60 each delivered including club discount :)

  Mégane RS
Michelin Pilot Sports, best tyres i've ever used and prob one of the best out there. bit pricey though

  TDI tyre shreader
I sware by yoko A539's, excellent in the dry but pants in the dry, although saying that i have uniroyal rainsports on the front of my 172 at the min, they fell the same in the dry but in the wet they are awesome never driven a car with so much grip in the wet. the only problem with them is that they tramline really badly but i have yet to play with the pressures, they do look good tho!!

Oh and i never got on with the contisports they are hard compound gripless poo and expensive too!

I think the GSD3s are the newest version of the tyre. That's what I've got on my Cup anyway!

Thumbs up from me with Yoko A539's.

They may be ****e in the wet but the dry on-limit behaviour more than makes up for it.

Anyway, it's WET, drive slower.

I have a video of you nearly spinning out at 20mph. ;-)

It doesn't matter how slowly you drive in the wet, you cannot account for everything. Like the road surface or other drivers. Eventually you will have to make evasive/drastic manouvres. And if it's wet and you've got A539's on you'll be heading rather quickly to your nearest hedge.

they maybe good on a dry track, but they are a poor road tyre imho.

Be careful m8. I heard good things about the Rainsports...had them on for about a day then got them off. Went for a blast up the motorway and **** myself. Felt like I was floating, roundabouts felt like you were on jelly..loads of roll on the tyres. When I changed them back to conti`s I tried pressing down on the tyres and the contis were much stiffer. Since then I`m scared of wasting my cash on other tyres!

P.S if any one wants them I have two like new Rainsports that I`m willing to let go for £50 (pair)

im changing from PE2's, to yoko parada spec-2's.

just ordered 4 from motorworld, 70 quid a corner.

means ive got two part worn, about 7mm left, pe2's spare off the rear though if anyone wants to buy them?

after 20 laps screaming and sliding round every corner of elvington on pe2's.. it made my mind up for me about changing to paradas.

think the pe2's may have been over inflated though, put them to 34 front and 37 rear for the track ?

  Lionel Richie
Guy we ran PE2's at 38psi front (cold pressure) on a very hot day at oulten park

now bearing in mind these tyres had done 2K, the sidewalls were ****ed within 15laps

  R35 GTR
I bought my car with 539s on front plus contisport ones on the rear, dunno if they're any good though, as my car goes sideways on roundabouts in the wet at about 30mph.Might be my driving though.
