Uprated brakes that dont work !!!

Bout 3 weeks ago i fitted 40 grove discs and mintex extreme pads all round on my 182, done nearly 700 miles now and have to say they are know where near as good as standard one's.
Loads of fade and just dont stop the car properly... so much so i found my self using the handbrake at a set of lights the other day to avoid 3 points !!

Any Ideas?

mine did that after i glazed the pads by (presumably) not giving them long enough to bed in before driving like a looney, solved it by takin the pads out and giving them a quick sand over with the dremmell and cleaning the discs with some brake cleaner, then start the bedding in process again, been great ever since

sounds bad.
I've got renault pads and black diamond discs on mine, and although the initial bite is not as sharp as std, the fade has reduced dramatically.
Unfortunately, with these sorts of things, its trial and error, so just try another product.

I would go with the glazing or operating temp of the pads.

I binned the standards as they were worn... tried to bed them in properly, no real harsh braking done for the first 500 miles and the weird thing is warmer they get the worse they get.
Trouble is they we're quite expensive so cant really afford to change them again. might take them off and give them a clean.

Did you clean the discs before using them?? In transit they are covered with a type of wax to preserve the metal.

Yes i did give them a clean with white spirit brfore fitting

I would take them off, bleed the system, give the pads a sandpaper down and clean the disks again.

I run these pads and on road they are much better.

Dont think they are seized because the car does stop ..but saying that would i be able to tell if just one had seized/locked itself.

iirc you shouldn't use white spirit - it leaves a greasy film behind, which may explain your problems. You should've used proper-job brake cleaner.

Might be worth taking the pads off, give them a little scrap.

Get some brake de-greaser or solvent remover (or whatever is supposed to be used).

the bedding in process is cruicial too.
Dont do the slow braking for 100 miles crap, what your trying to do is heat the pads gradually so that you burn off and bond the resins.
go up to 60mph and slow down gradually to 5mph (dont stop or you'll leave pad deposits which lead to judder), then do it again and brake a tad harder, keep going but never stopping....brake harder each time....about 7-10 passes is fine and the brakes should be hot, smoking, then you can drive like normal.

should have used methelated spirtits, its the purple liquid
