URGENT HELP! AST collies problem :-(

One of the height adjusting collars that you loosen and then spin to adjust the coilover ride height on the front shock has split :dapprove:

- I desperately need one asap so does anyone know if powerstation stock spare parts such as this one - if so I will pick one up tmrw morning first thing as they are open to 12.30.

Thanks all!!

Nope no complaining fred lol. Been to powerstation this morning andCurtis was very helpful, gave me replacment parts for free! Had to get up at the crack of dawn to get overs here from London but got my part so I'm happy. With reference to the collar Curtis said he had never seen one split before so I'm gong to send it to them to examine. so apart from the 6 hours travelling everything has worked itself out:)

i hear alot of reliability problems with AST's but i always hear of the problems being fixed for free and very quickly

Yeah they do have their odd problems but as has been said they will fix them very quickly and usually FOC. Thats the joy of them having proper backup and have a sole uk distributor unlike alot of other coilover manufacturers which are a complete nightmare when they go wrong as they are almost always based abroad!

True, when i spoke to a friend of mine with a WRX/EVO fetish about AST's he screwed his face up and recommended that I go for H&R/Bilsteins instead because of reliability issues with the ASTs.

The advantage is like Dan R said is that they have support setup unlike many of the others.

He wouldnt be doing that mate cos there not. U need to drive mine with the new rebound settings etc. Think youll change ur mind!!!

i will take you up on that sometime

the "road" and "race" versions i've driven have been too hard at the front

Only thing that worries me on the AST's is the size of the cap heads on the top mounts. Doesn't look very strong. The actual units are well made though and if I could afford them, I'd have em!

Setting up myself FTW though ;)

right had both front shocks of today, gave them a good clean up - something I should have done when I picked them up tbh - toothbrushed all the junk and grit out of the threads greased them up and put the replacement ring back on so happy they are back up and running.

I'll take a pick of the ring where it broke so you can see what happened but the slot it split around has taken some abuse at some point in its life as it was elongated from round and has marking and rust where the metal had been malformed. I am guessing when I say it must have been forced in a past life and it finally chose to gave up on me lol.

Thanks to curtis for his help, had a chat with him about setting up etc and made some more changes to the rde height as the low-rider effect was inhibiting the shocks performance preventing a more progressive stroke especially on rougher bits of road. Over the moon the the coilies, they are a comfortable as the cup pack suspension day to day, but through it in a corner and its just immense, one very happy customer :D

so heres the damage:

It has split almost directly opposite the collar closure, and judging by the propagation of the crack, it is due to the compression and expansion of the ring as it has been undone/tightened or turned under excessive force.
