I thought that they only came out on W reg ? and that would be the mk1 172.
Didn't the mk2 come out on a y reg ??

nah, cant be a MK2 172, you cant get them on a V reg. Must have been an elaborate copy or a private plate!

Mine is a Y reg Phase 1 and I am sure they started in March (ish) 2000 and so came in a V reg. However strange with everything else though.

Could have had a proper private plate but seller kept it and therefore new owner bought the cheapest from DVLA??

No mate, DVLA would have issued the original plate, or another relating to the proper age of the car, at no cost

An old colleague moved to Cyprus (2001 51 plate) and took her Disco with her and has recently come back. She changed the registration from UK to Cyprus and now back to UK. But the DVLA issued plates that were issued on her return were X plates.

She was a little annoyed cos this made the car look older but apparently DVLA can issue any plates as long as they aren't newer / younger than the actual car.

So maybe that sort of thing has happend with this beloved little RS??!!

Hmm, thats certainly not what their website says about it, or at least not a couple of months ago when i transfered a private plate of my 172 which was on it when i bought it.

I bet she was not happy about her 51 plate looking like an x!
