Was out in the 182 lastnight...

  200 FF Storm Grey
And it just didn't feel as quick, I've only had it since Sunday and everytime ive put my foot down it's given me a big grin but last night it just seemed very sluggish, I put standard unleaded in yesterday morning, as I was doing it I noticed the 98 ron recomended.

Now I aint one to be conned by all that sh1te so I thought nothing more about it but when I was thinking lastnight what could it possibly be thats made the car more sluggish, that was all I could think of..

Could there be any other reason for it? Im fairly sure it isn't psychological as my mate was out with me in his 1.2 sxi and when I did give it some beans for a little spell he wasn't that far behind...

Just curious :\ Could it be that ive got used to the little clio very quick?

I think they need 98ron to run effectivly. Since you put standard in this could be why it is sluggish mate. Try topping it up with 98 to dilute the old unleaded and see if it gets better!

Think im just going to burn this petrol off as quick as possible because its going to be in the back of my head now, aircon on full for the next 2 days me thinks lol

So you think it is the fuel then?

Was it fully warmed up before giving it beans?

Yeh mate, good 20 mile of country roads going down, it just say coming out a roundabout where you give it some, id look in my mirror like 5 seconds later to see my mate is only about 10 metres behind lol

Makes no difference IMO i used to always run a v-power etc. Now I just fill up with ASDA 95 ron ghetto fuel.

They do tend to feel a little sluglish went it's warm.

It was warm when I picked it up though, just suprised me thats all as to how little it pulled away from the other cars

I've found that if you drive like a granny (not going very fast, changing gears early) right from start up it seems to settle into a rather lethargic state. Could be something to do with the ECU I suppose.

  ITB'd 182...
You will need to rev the tits of it to get the most out of it tbh...

Warm weather doesnt help

Variety of things...

Tyre pressures all okay? Any un-necessary weight on board? Like said, this warm weather will do it no favours tbh.

*You should have wasted your mate in the Corsa by about 6 bus lengths*

The only difference I find using 95 - 99 (Tesco) is that it idles just a bit smoother when cold. They are always rough when cold but Tesco 99 seems to make it a tad better. I always run on 99 though.

I just think that if it says to use 98+ then it says it for a reason.

Heat imo, thank god your not driving a turbo charged car in this weather !

+1

cant see why you drive an RS n dont give it the best, granted used to use 95 and whether its better or not, now i wouldnt ever drop below 97...

thats partially due to my mapping and partially due to actually feeling the differences in each fuel now

  S3, Polo
95/ 97 RON fuel won't make a huge difference.

Heat soak and warm weather will.

Hot/ warm air contains less oxygen molecules per given volume and will give a smaller 'bang' than cold air.

Cold air is more dense = bigger bang and will give you more 'go' - get a CAI kit.

It may have been neither of the above. After a service my car feels quicker and everything seems 'tighter' - However, it also feels like this when I've valeted it...

It MAY be in your head?

From a standing start i.e lights after 50 metres he was no where close, just on the move it didnt seem to pull like it should.

I wasn't reving the tits of it, just was expecting the pull ion the lwoer revs that ive been getting the few days prior, hopefully things will improve when the weather cools and ive got some 98ron back in there

Im not THAT impressed with mine either tbh. Its good, yes, but not amazing.
Unfortunatley you have to get it 5000rpm to get it to shift, its no good until you reach that and then you only have 2000rpm before youre changing gear.

98ron will make sod all difference to the outright performance. Also remember your mate was probs screwing the tits off his corsa to try and keep up when as you said you weren't thrashing yours!

I find the V power makes the cold start and idle smoother, whether there is any real benefit from it power wise is an open book.

hot air will have been the killer, also try changing gear when the shift light comes on will blow the cob webs out abit.

did you have your mates in the car? my 182 wouldnt pull your forskin back with a car full.

+ they are shite low down in the rev range got to rev to get the best out of them

  Clio 182FF
I actually find my Clio feels quicker when it's hot (probably all in my head) which is weird, but I did pop the engine cover after a 20 min journey last night - JESUS that engine makes some heat! I could feel it standing a few feet away!

Take the bonnet off altogether, 30bhp+ straight away.

Rude-boi in his Corsa wont stand a chance, innit

From our RR day results 182's seem in general to be even more underpowered than 172's, so surely that cant help. But yeah.. as cat said, probably just the hot air flying around, there wasnt any women about was there? :)

Unless its mapped to run on 98ron of course.

As said, its going to be the heat. Go out when its cold/misty or raining even nad its rapid ;)

I have not used my 182 since Monday afternoon. I bet when i start the car it will idle like a bag of spanners spitting and missing. I think the warm weather has a big part of this. I use 98 ron most of the time too but now and again i put 95 ron in.

  Clio 182FF
I always run on poverty spec fuel (because I have to) and have never had a problem. All Clio RS's seem to splutter but this extra heat can't be good.

  Clio 182
IMO the clio sports are "Quick" but not really that "Fast". Straight line speed and pulling power is not the best but for me the thrill of the car is on twisty roads where it can keep up with a lot of things out there.

Wouldn't worry about it!

Yeh suppose that could be true, I wasn't exactly propa going for it, was in lowish revs but still expected a bit of pull, maybe I was just being a bit naive to think it would blitz it without any effort.

Btw if this thread is making me sound like some young lad scooting about the place like a c**k, I aint like that, was just having a bit of a play with the car

Edit: Should also add the centre pipe is blowing quite badly which cant help matters in terms of compression, new yozza system going on in two weeks and along with the cooler weather and correct fuel should hopefully feel like its meant to

I use vpower every 3rd tank. Idles slightly better, but no difference once rolling. I use it more for the cleaning additives. One of the mags did a test, speed difference on a porker mapped for 98 was under 0.2s. No way you're gonna notice that, you'd get more of an effect from emptying your bowels before driving!

Could make the difference between a time in the 6 seconds to a time in the 7 seconds :p

Your such a Chav, bet you have blue led washer jets and everything!

  Focus RS Mk1
the hot weather will be affacting performance slightly, air is less dense, therefore less oxygen = less powerful combustion.

I find mine runs better on 95 over the 98! didnt like ti one bit.

Cant say ive ever noticed the difference in performance to be honest! not worth the extra money imo

  Ph1
Its meant to run 98 ron for a reason. Why would Renault put a sticker in the filler cap if it made no difference to the running of the car?

There is a difference. Infact, theres a big difference between the higher grades alone let alone the ron levels.

One of the track magazines did a 4 page test feature on the differences a while back. Tesco's 99 gave better overall power across the rev range than Vpower!

End of the day its everyones choice but if youve bought a hot hatch you might aswell feed it the best fuels

It's meant to run on 98? Where the eff am I meant to get that? The Super unleaded around here is 97.
