Winter strip down started. Time for it to be a money and time pit no doubt. Hopefully will be looking different for next year.

Worryingly I found I was missing 4 bolts out of my inlet.... I'm guessing they weren't ingested!

New wheels and tyres. They get me away from using spacers on the rear too!

Old wheel weight 19kg

New front weight 12.6kg

New rear wheel weight 14.7kg

Total saving of 21.4kg unsprung! Which in this is worth 10bhp/tonne!

Trial fit

Are engines in these fairly interchangeable, like can you pick and choose quite happily? Guy at work has one of these with a Ford duratec engine then someone else has a Caterham with the k series vvc engine in. I always thought Caterham was primarily Ford engines. Must be great fun.

Not that hard to switch between anything really. A few Honda K20 ones now. Make good power but they are a heavy old lump.

So buying something with no warranty you might as well get Westfield unless you really want the 7 grill ?

Curious as I'd love something like that and had no idea you could get something so serious for under 20k

Kinda yeah.

£13k would buy mine, £16k would get you a 250bhp monster.

£16k would get you a good 160bhp Caterham.

The original was the Lotus 7.
Lotus sold the rights to Caterham, who still produce the cars, mostly factory built.
Westfield copied the car and were sued for it, these are the 'prelit' or pre litigation Westfields, after which they went through various iterations.
There are also various locost variants around, stemming from the "build your own sportscar for £250" book

price, confidence over build quality etc are inversely proportional. Westfield represents a good mid range of cost, where good build quality is fairly likely and lots of parts are available and interchangable.

Or you could build a car that had bits of both !!

My car was involved in solicitors letters and threats against a manufacturer of carbon parts as between us we copied the first rear arches in carbon

There are only 2 cars with them and pretty much only ever will be.

Caterhams hold huge value and always will .

Also to drive caterham and westfield feel worlds different

So.... do I sell the bodies? Buy a supercharger and some shorter rods.

It would make a 300ish bhp 8000rpm unit. Not sure it would ruin it though.

Fit a duratec ;-)

With a charger

There is a 260bhp Duratec with Ecu for sale on motorsport parts. £7k is a fair chunk of dolla though.

Thats not a bad price ... depending on who built it

The torque and ability to give big power is so much better than a k series

I drove my mates 300bhp duratec and it was a total weapon

The last owner told me it had been fully renewed when he bought it...

Oil filter (Which I had to use a vice to get off.....) and aux belt from 2009.

After getting it to a point where it was ready it start, it sprung hell of an oil leak! Lost 2l of oil in about a minute.

I decided to fully drain, what I guess is 9 year old oil, used the F1 approved 'drill in the dry sump pump' method...

It's been f**king cold recently too, my little heater only just keeps my coffee warm!

Cars now nearly back together, just waiting for some new gasket for the high pressure side of the oil system along with a new aux belt too! Oh yeah it snowed today whilst I was out there!

Lovely garage setup! Car's alright too. I'd drive that as is (i.e. without a windscreen) but get myself some driving goggles like I'm driving Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Except there'd be a couple of GoPros hanging off the roll bars catching my mad drifts yo.
