What Clio shall I go for!??

  Mini Cooper
Recieved a Deposit on my 206 today, so now im looking for the Clio properly!!
Got between £5000-£6000 to spend!! Looked at the 05' 1.2 16v Extreme amd the 54' 1.2 16v Dynamique, and liek look of both!! Extreme looks better from outside, but Dynamique has better spec and interior IMO!!

Any opinions welcome? Also, if ya suggest something, please explin why youd choose that!!

Also I really like the otterman blue colour, does that only come with specific models or this there colours that are very similar to it with a different name!?

Cheers

You could get a 172 for that.

Just watch out for insurance!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah Id go for a 172 if you can afford the insurance.

If not then the 1.4 are a big step up from the 1.2, 100bhp and good for 60 in about 10secs so not bad at all.

If you want a 1.2 as far as Im aware renault are still making the 1.2 sport campus in the old shape and i think you can get a new one for around 6k

best of luck

right cant afford insurance on 172 so thats outta question!!

whats the jump in insurance groups between 1.2 16v and 1.4 16v, and is it worth the extra cost!?

Depends try having a look.
The extra power is good but 100hp still ins't amazing. You would get used to it quick then again same could be said for a 172.

If insurance is really a problem i'd go for a DCI 100 TBH. The torque will keep it interesting, i'd go for that over any petrol powered version except for the 2.0 litre ones obviously.

Why not hold out for the new 138BHP Petrol Clio which IIRC will look like a 197 with a lower insurance group? See below for details.

The interior will be dark grey - upholstery part leather with specific centre console and leather steering wheel etc. Exterior wise - extra tinted rear windows and 16" alloys with sports front wings. No chassis changes.

More details will be released nearer the launch...

I found the DCi100 hard work. Unless fuel enconomy is an issue, id rather have the 1.6.

  Mini Cooper
right, lets get this str8!! i realise the 172 will be a lot better, but i cant afford it and its mainly for my girlfriend who will only have just passed her test!!

im thinking comfort and looks, rather than power!!

what small engined car will look the best and be the most comfortable??

i was thinking a blue 54 reg dynamqiue then get it fully colour coded as that, IMO, is all the dynamique is missing!!?

what ya think?? (remembering its gonna be a first car for my girlfriend in a couple of months, so il only have it until she passes, or until I get my company car)!?

May aswell keep the insurance costs down, as she aint fussed on power, just wants it to look nice!!?

  Clio MK3 1.6 Dynamique
I used to have a 04reg 1.2 Dynamique, and they are very comfy cars, they look nice and sporty inside too :)

I would recommend getting a dynamique, overall they are nice cars & I dont have a bad word to say about em

I ave now got a 56reg 1.6 dynamique, and the diference is unbeleivable(power wise tho) which I know your not that fussed about, but just thought Id throw that bit in.

All CLio engine spec apart from 172 and V6 look the same realy its specifiaction ie Dynamic which look slightly different.

I'd agree with you dynamic 1.2 16V age won't realy matter. Some later Dynamiqes have colour coded I think but not many.

yeah cheers!!!

so out of all the models renault do at the 1.2/1.4 level, the dynamique is the one i should go for?
Its got all the sporty kit peple like alloys/spiler/fog lights so its a good polular choice.

I totally agree. I also have a 1.6 (had a 1.4 RT Alize before ) and the insurance isn't that bad either. It's a group 8, it does put you in the higher tax bracket, but well worth it if you can afford it. In saying that, if insurance is an issue I would go for a 1.4 instead of a 1.2 and most definitely a dynamique.

I wouldn't spend 6k on a 1.2.

For that cash I'd want something good. Perhaps a PH-quick for £5k, and a £1k for insurance - bingo.

If you are set on a smaller engine just get a cheaper/older one.

Or as a compromise Saxo VTS/106 GTaii.

I dont think your getting the message, he doesnt want a quick car, it wants to look good and be under 6k and have reasonable insurance cost which none of the above have

You didn't mention your girlfriend in your first 2 posts (not that girls shouldn't drive 172's)

You're right if she doesn't want power why pay double or more for insurance. If you're likely to have or drive the car frequently and do like the power the little difference in the cost of the cars, if you go for a 172 which is 12-24 mths older, would make me pay the extra ins.

Yeh, but I wouldn't pay 6k to go slow

  Clio MK3 1.6 Dynamique
I myself would, well.. I did.. get a faster car but then again, im just power-hungry, but he isnt. so I think the 1.2 dynamique is his answer :)

Im not saying this to put you off, but once you/your girlfriend get into the 1.2, you might wish you had spent that extra bob or two on getting 1.4 or 1.6... I certainly did. I was going to get a 2.0 if it was possible, but I was told the biggest engine a dynamique comes with is 1.6, I can only dream how fast a 2.0 wouldave been  or just throw a jet engine in it! :D - However I am happy with the 1.6, very happy!

anyway let us know what you get & how everything goes :D

  Mini Cooper
cool, cheers people!!

what are your opinions on the link i posted to the one on autotrader!!

tis a blue 1.2 16v dynamique 54 reg with 10k miles, and there after £5500!! that seem right!!?

  RB 182
Hey correct me if im wrong but wasnt it you who was going to get the cheap campus sport? if so what happened? O and defo a dynamique ottoman and if u can afford it 1.4 although fo your g/f 1.2 would b fine :)

  Mini Cooper
cheers mate

yeah it was me who was gonna get the campus sport, they didnt have any left only the newer version and it was too expensive!!

what do people think of the dynamique on the auto trader that i posted link to?!

  BMW E46 330i Touring
Tbh I wouldn't spend that much on a car that I'd realistically be looking to change in a year or so, and which the depreciation will be crippling.

I'd recommend getting either a better car for the money (relatively new Golf, for example) or a cheaper car and saving some of the money. There are plenty of decent reliable cars for £2-3k out there.

  172 mk2 Iceberg
1.2 is great around town but on the longer runs the 1.4 and 1.6 shine thru for me..
maybe get the 1.4 to keep costs down and get some go as well..
best of luck

You can get the campus for bout £6800 inc met, frf and rfl but not many of those left. they are pack cars so when they run out prices go up again. but to be honest even though they are cheap i still think they are far too underspeced in comparison wit the dynamique! my advice is buy a dci 100 dynamique. quick (ish) car wit good spec cheap to insure and even cheaper to run. i loved mine, never any issues. gearbox takes gettin used to but after a few miles you'll be sound. Dci all the way. or if you dont want a derv buy a 1.4! R11YLE
