what engine mods for 1.6 16v????

  clio 1.6 16v
hi there i was wondering what engine mods i could do to my 1.6 16v clio to make it quicker?? any help would be greatly appreciated :)

  ITB'd MK1
Matched inlets would work in a very similar way that they do on the 2 litre. de-cat, remap, and a really thorough service to make sure everything is working perfectly. K4M is quite well supported for tuning. There's a reasonable parts supply if you want to go further.

Supersprint manifold is meant to make a good difference. I had my inlets matched (Plastic) and made absolutely no noticable difference

i dont mind spending a bit of money on it. is there anything thats abit more expensiver that would make any difference. thanks

Yes there is a quick mode.

Find the head of a Twingo 133.

It has wilder cams and this makes the difference.

My plan is to take a K4J engine, change the internals to a K4M and fit the head of a 133 Twingo and for less than £1000 you get 33hp and no-one can tell the difference. Then, play with exhaust and you can get another 10-15Hp depending on what you want to do.

Lower insurance, Lower Road tax. At least in Greece when i do the mod.

Skip everything but the RStuner map, did my dailydriver just for the hell of it, and it improved 0-60 by 1,2sek. (no joke) Could not belive how strong the car felt from low revs. With stock map felt tired over 5k before but now revs out fast. Throttle response is mutch improved and mpg a bit lower aswell.

Car is transformed, impressive stuff by Henk.

Alright mate,

The most noticable thing you could do is either go for the conversion to the 172/182 engine or do the twingo rs 133.

However thats not all you can do obviously for a noticible difference

i have a 1.6 16v phase 1 and ive found quite a few things that would and when all put together could give you quite a gain.

panel filter and cold air feed (this seemed to give me a smoother drive than my induction kit) so K&N Panel filter with a cold air feed which is running to my fog light. (No bends in the pipe so its going straight there.

Also ashley exhaust system, im not sure weather this did much until it got decatted the other week but im sure it has changed something (small)
If anything different exhaust-decatted onto a after market manifold (Ktec offer one of these but they arent cheap).

http://www.k-tecracing.com/show_product.asp?id=381&appid=4

After you have done small things like this then go for your remap, well i would personally but thats my own opinion.
I think the remap alone gives something like 7-10bhp? but as said if you do all of the correct things you can still get some performance out of it without going for the major swaps!

Just check out ktec's site (follow that link to the manifold) and see what you can find on there!
there is all sorts of stuff.

Ps i would reccomend the ashley exhaust and decat pipe as when decatted it makes the nicest sound out lol

hope this helps you out abit!

You know anyone who has done this?

usual breathing mods like manifold back exhaust with decat, matched inlets, panel filter with caf and a remap will see some decent gains but its more in driverbility and response than in actual bhp gains, should be able to get the above done for about £1000 (cheaper with 2nd hand parts)

imo though, the £1000 is better spent on good suspension/brake upgragdes then think about trying to get into a 172 if you want more power!!

What about exhaust manifold of Renault Clio rally cup car (they use K4M engines)? Price is good..

Not yet. I am thinking of doing it but it will be next year.

Also considering to go ITBs on it.

think there is quite a big scene for modifying k4m in brazil as I dont think they got the 172. Pretty sure theres a supercharge conversion they do?

  172ph1 / Hayabusa
as already said, would be cheaper just to buy as faster car.

but if you dead set on throwing money at your 1.6 then, you should probably start by deciding what you want from it.

- Big power number (relative!)
- Go fast in a straight line
- Go fast round a track
- Look good
- etc.

imo, unless you know what your goal is, you will probably waste A LOT of money finding out that what you ended up with isn't what you wanted.

just my two pence.

Do you just need the head for this or do you need the inlet manifold aswell? Also will it need to be remapped due to the wilder cams? Cheers

If i want to make my k4m deliver like 130/40 hp. What shall i do?

I cant find cams on the net.

I bought a K&N panel filter and will do a CAF. I will do the headers and remap.

Am i missing something?

I have catcams in mine and I´m quite content with them.
The air-box has some potential for optimization, too.

But for 140hp you will need some more.

As I´m from Germany, I bought the cams at Reichhard-Motorsport. I think I paid about €800,- in 2004.
