What gasket for a clio 182? help!! Exhaust blowing

  FF Titanium 182
What sort of gasket do I need to get as I've fitted my RS192 and it's blowing I think it might be to big so it isn't sealing properly anyone have any ideas?

  FF Titanium 182
Surely someone has replaced the gasket? If so what did you use to stop the blowing?

Leaking from the manifold to the decat pipe. The gasket looked overly thick when we was bolting the flanges together not sure it's the correct gasket or what.

The mesh gasket is quite thick , make sure you've put it in the right way round , it's slightly curved so it sits inside the Cat or Decat pipe , whichever you're using . This is the manifold to Cat kit from Renault . It's a bad design , the olive joint , lots of people have the same problem were it blows . Like Addicted says , quite a few people have the olive joint cut off and sleeved but it's not cheap .

Has anyone else tried a thinner gasket? I was thinking first off buying another 2.5inch gasket but thinner and then putting some exhaust sealant around it. The standard Renault one is too thick for it to even sit right.

Probably the olive joint, or as George182 says the exhaust manifold to cat gasket.

If it's the olive joint, get it sleeved or using other types of mounts - the olive joints suck!

Yeah it is where the exhaust manifold joins the decat pipe the gasket seems to be causing the pipe not to sit correctly and is a pain in the arse! What do you mean by getting it sleeved?

A process of chopping off both olive joints, and replacing the joint on the cat with a bit of pipe that is slightly smaller diameter than the exhaust, so it slides inside the exhaust, and is then bolted tight.

It stops the leak by being a better fit, and then also reduced any bending too!
@Fred@BTM did mine, top job and was around £50 or £70 iirc, no problems since :) I know your pain - it annoyed me to no end!

Here's an example (this isn't mine by the way - Fred's welding is much tidier :p):

And a thread with alot of info in :) http://www.cliosport.net/forum/show...-anyone-had-it-done&highlight=sleeved+exhaust

I've had mine flanged but now it seems to be blowing from the manifold to cat area, although it had a genuine renault gasket fitted at the time of the exhaust been modified.

From that picture that is the cat joining the centre section right? My problem is from the Manifold into my decay pipe so where you have all the annoying springs and stuff to bolt them both together, can that be sleeved as well? My part from the decat into the centre section seems fine I think.

Not sure to be honest, but if it's leaking there that'd suggest fubar'd mounts, as the exhaust is hanging down lower (or even higher), so it's not sealing properly.

It seems more to me like the gasket is too big and it's making the fit between the manifold n the decat pipe really tight basically stopping the decat from bolting to the manifold properly?

Like i said before , the mesh gasket is quite big . The 2 flanges , one on the manifold and the one on the decat or Cat don't meet up when you bolt them together . There is always quite a large gap , that's how it's designed , probably to allow some slight movement . You can actually see the shiny mesh gasket inbetween the 2 flanges in this pic .

You shouldn't need any sealant .

Okay brilliant got you, dont think mine is sitting anywhere near thst flush tho, just ordered the kit from renault is that what you have used there? Going to take the centre section and decat back off and start with tightening the decat to the manifold first

That's not mine in the pic , it's one I've stolen . But yeah , that's the correct fitting kit . I don't think it's fitted right though , having looked at the pic closer . The dimpled washer should be between the spring and decat flange .

If you do a bit of a search on here you'll see some guides on how it should all fit together if you're unsure . It might be worth you fitting an new exhaust clamp too whilst you're at it .

I bought one of these , It's not a Renault part but it's a bit stronger i think .

You use that clamp on your car? How does it fit? Looks decent think I might buy one of them aswell then

In my opinion it's a better clamp the the original Renault one , it's alot thicker and stronger . On your Decat or Cat , both should have the same " Olive joint " , that's just a thick round part on the end Cat , it sits inside the centre section which is flared . The clamp fits over both the Olive joint and flared centre section . This is where most people have problems with it blowing .

You might also want to check your centre exhaust hanger . If that's knackered , like Addicted said then that will be putting strain on the Olive joint , so even after you've fitted a manifold to Cat kit and new exhaust clamp it might it blow again a few weeks later from the Olive joint . If you message Adam at Renault Wolverhampton he sells them , i think the new red ones are supposed to be stronger . They only a few quid .

Yeah mate, I went to Fred@BTM and had the joint sleeved and welded. Was £70 all in. Every now and then I get a slight whistle but so much better then before!
