What have you done to your car today ???

  172 cup
Photo was taken at the weekend but took it out and kicked it’s head in again today on my lunch break.

Still getting grief From pretty much everyone I know that I sold my Escort Cosworth and kept a Clio but it’s the most fun I’ve had driving a car for years!

ha, yeah I can imagine! Having owned a few cossies though I can say I don’t blame you. They might not have the kudos of a cossie but they sure as hell are fun to drive for what they’re worth. The fact you don’t have to worry about them being nicked or damaged is handy too.

I absolutely love the way my 172 drives, it still baffles me how you can just keep pushing the turn and it just clings on.

Your car looks awesome too. Would love some turinis for mine, it’s THE perfect look on a 1*2

Thanks very much mate, as long as you don't look too closely it's not doing too bad for the age they are now.

The escort was a case of never meet your hero's for me. Always wanted one from being a kid and bought one on 19k miles and dream spec that was probably too good to enjoy properly, always worried about breaking it or someone nicking it. Even after doing a few jobs it still stands me at less than 10% of what the Escort did and all the parts seem like they cost buttons in comparison, it's great!

I fitted a powerflex upper engine mount. At first i wasn't sure the extra rattles and vibrations was worth it, but now I've sorted out a few bits of loose interior trim I'm really happy with how it feels. I think a few drives has also helped "settle" the new mount.

Fitted now boot struts as the old ones were starting to go rusty and didn’t take the boot up on their own. Nearly took my chin off on the first open with the new ones

Nice, New radiator and condenser in or just clean everything up?

What did you need to disconnect the alternator for?

New radiator, condenser and dryer. The alternator was draining the battery, that is a new one in the photo but is the wrong as the terminals are in the way of the ac hoses. Oh and the idler pulley is knackered so that's getting done too.

New idler fitted along with a new used alternator, new rad, condenser and drier. I'm not sure how but I managed to but I dragged it out for a whole day while losing bolts in the engine bay, drinking coffee, eating and listening to Man Utd collapse to Tottenham.

How good does the new condenser look mate. Top work
It was a good fit although I think I've made a mistake leaving the ac lines open, but then they were leaking anyway so I'm sure they'd have had moisture in them.

That pulley was a right bugger to do but now ready for a trip to see if the aircon holds pressure and works, oh and the mot has run out😫

I bought some of these after my clio tried to knock me out (the week after it'd had a new gearbox & clutch).

They've been on the car a year and still feel good.

Got them from SGS. I’ve got them on now and they go up much quicker but seem to stop short of going to the full extension. I’m sending them back to have them re-gassed.

I actually have the opposite problem, struts extend to far causing the spoiler to foul the roof and scratch it

The rear load valve on my 172 cup was knackered so fitted a new one today along with a couple new brake pipes, new front caliper pistons/seals and Goodridge hoses.

Oh and changed the power steering pump too as I was getting fed up of the belt squeal on start-up 😂

Changed the rack on my orange dci yesterday without dropping the subframe. Was as awful as expected undoing the bolts with a ratchet spanner:LOL:

I bought it from the classifieds on here, I couldn't decide if the noise was from the p/s pump or water pump so didn't want to waste money on a new one to find it wasn't that!
