what holds the o/s shaft in on a 1.2 16v

  LY 182
as title i've fitted 1.2 shafts when doing my 172 conversion, when taking the 1.2 shafts off the original gearbox the shaft just knocked off of the splined section on the box with a copper hammer

but fitting it to the 172 box it seems a tad loose for my liking, theres a hole through the splined section on the gearbox where im told a roll pin goes but there isnt the corresponding hole on the shaft??

  Lots of Alfas
Not all of them are held on by a pin, some just rest on the splined gearbox bit and are held on by the fact the hub is on the other end.

I know on a 172mk1 the o/s shaft is held on this way, not sure what gearbox you have??

mk2 ph2 172 box,,
the original 172 shaft was being held in by a center bearing bolted to the block, which obviously gets deleted when using 1.2 shafts

  BMW M135i
Both my 1.6 and the 172 haven't got roll pins in the shafts, they both had the bearing on the back of the block though so I didn't worry. It seems a bit of a lottery whether they've got them or not.

you using the 172 wishbones or the 1.2 ones?
1.2, everything is 1.2 bar the engine and box

same way yours is set up (as i've read)
just a tad concerned with that one shaft
is yours pinned on there or the same\?
