What sort of milage is a williams lump reliable till???

i have seen a hybrid for sale with 81000 miles on the clock (apparently!) but i am always worried about this high milage, mayb i am being silly but anything above 60k and i start 2 think it will be breaking down all the time! can any1 put my mind at ease or tell me whether i am right to be wary, i just dont want to buy another car that gives me more hassle then its worth!
i have asked the guy about the cambelt and im waiting to hear back on that.

my valver is on 150 k amd the engine is perfect. (Shame the box has blown lol)

Really you are looking at its history rather than milage. You could get one on 50 k thats been fooked or one on 150k thats perfect.

thats the problem though, as its a hybrid there is no service history! no point showing me service history for the old engine! so basically you are buying an 80k car with no history!

As long as the vehilce has a full service history then mileage shouldn't be a issue.

read the above post! whats the point in telling me that the car was serviced ever year when that is for an engine thats not in the car anymore!

Sadly mate I can't read minds, and we posted at the same time, so don't get shirty with me.

sorry mate i wasnt getting shirty i just came across wrong:eek: and i meant whats the point in the seller showing me service history for the car wen the engines only been in there for 3k miles! its a bit of a gamble isnt it

Do a compression test on it.

yeh thats a good idea i bought a tester a few months ago and havnt even used it yet!

personally if you were selling a car would you want some1 doing a test on your car? i mean i know i am perfectly capable of doing it without f**king up the car but the seller doesnt know that

Check the service history for the engine & as said get a compression test done on it.
It's been reported that williams engines can see over 200k !!! with really minimal wear. Just make sure that's it'ss been looked after.

If they can't provide any history or bills or the conversion etc i'd walk away, last thing you wanna do is get stung.

When I had the engine changed in my valver (dont ask lol) I had a copy of their service history & a signed written letter from the person whose car the engine came out of.

but mate not many ppl get a copy of the history when they buy a new engine so really when buying any hybrid you are taking a risk! also what do you mean reciepts? as in by the garage that fitted then engine?

edit: here is the car in question, and i have just realised it is actually a williams replica with stickers and all

id say that mileage is fine mate,my mate had his willy cammed and chipped @ 110k and it still made 180 bhp on nick hill's roller's,id say if the engine sounds good, does rattle or smoke etc,and drives nice dont worry about it

That's good mileage mate. I see your point on the service history point. Although a lot of valver/hybrid owners are enthusiasts and know that they own a car where 'big things may go wrong' that is gearbox's, clutches, engines etc. Doesn't seem you are ready to take on this responsibility so maybe you should go for a 'more reliable' car, which may cost you more money in the short run and/or be less fun. You never know with these kind of cars if or when something might break, its just a bit of luck really. Obviously a well looked after car helps but some people have no end of problems. Others have little or none. If you really want the car, and you think it looks well looked after, go buy it :)

if you were the owner would you have a problem with a "stranger" doing a compression test on your car?

I personally think you should steer well clear, that is only because I want it though, lol. As for a compression test, unless I knew the person knew what they were doing I would not let them do it - though in my case I would do it for them.

all being well yes. Not all that far, can be down there and back in a day. It'll just be a bugger if I get there and have to turn round as the car isn't as described, lol.

If the seller has proof of the actual mileage on the engine thats in there, fine, if they have bills for all work done, inc cambelt change ?? (inc fitting it of engine etc) then great. Personally there is no way i'd touch one without paperwork.

Bradharding - not every one who puts a willy engine in their car is an enthusiast at all, some don't have a clue !

tbh mate i dnt think many ppl with hybrids have actualy proof of the engine milage, or do they?

81k wouldn't worry me at all you get cars with 50k which are worn and cars with 300k which arn't.

81k would worry me more by the fact its so low milage.

Williams have been over 300k before now without issues.
