What would you pay for this 172?

  Porsche 911, Clio 172
Hi all, first post on here.... been a member on pistonheads.com and a few of those guys recommended this place now that I am a 172 owner, looks like a decent forum.

Anyway, just picked up an ex-company 172, 53 plate (Oct 2003), black, FSH, new exhaust, tyres (Contis), pads & discs all round. History is all main dealer. The only downside is that at 67000 miles I need to get the cambelt done as a priority and it has a dent in the bonnet from a 'birdstrike' (Clio 1 Pheasant 0), looks like it may pop out but we'll see. Anyway, I think I got it at a decent price (which I'll reveal later to avoid colouring possible estimates!) when you allow for what needs doing (I'll be using an indie for servicing so estimating £300 for cambelt).

I found it difficult to value the car as the closest thing in the Renault network was a year older but with 'only' 50000 miles and that was £7495, but at the other extreme I found a 172 Cup, 18 months older but with 55000 miles for sale privately for £4250.

So, what would YOU have paid for the car I bought? Cheers all!

Oh, and any recommendations for decent Indies in the East Midlands?
:D

Sorry, non-main dealer garage / specialist!

Have heard good things about GDI in Cambridgeshire, but someone in Lincoln (Dave Clark???) would be handy.

Keep the prices coming, I'll reveal what I paid shortly!

5k topps but I would not have paid more than 4.5k.

If I had bought that car it would have over 80k by this time next year and be worth no more than 3k.

You pay for what you get.

I think a lot of these prices are with the Cliosport glasses on, it would fetch more advertised through Autotrader IMO.

Interesting comment.

Anyway, I gave £4000 for it so I'm pretty happy.

Best price so far for cambelt (full kit) is £417 fitted, how does that sound?
Reckon I'll get the plugs changed at the same time...

Should be changed at 70k as per the stealers hand book so should be done

I will get mine done well before then though, just seems a lot of milage before the first plug change.

The plugs were done at 36K but for the sake of the extra £40 I think I'll get them changed when the cambelt is done.

Did you pick it up at an auction?? I'm thinking you did, with being an ex lcompany vehicle.

No, it is from the company my wife works for. The deal was they got it valued and we were offered it for auction estimate minus auctioneer's fees minus work outstanding (albeit work at trade price).

I am pretty pleased with the price, if the bonnet dent comes out easily I'll be even happier but ultimately I'm looking to run the car for a year and then trade it in without losing toooooo many £££.

Meanwhile, can't wait to get out and have some fun in her - heard lots of good things about them (she's being delivered early next week).

£4k's a good price, get the cambelt done asap to avoid anything snapping. £400 is an alright quote for the work, you can get it cheaper if you're prepared to travel a bit to one of the garages that frequent this site though.

My cambelt and aux was changed around 40k by the previous owner, it's nice to know that your car has been well cared for previously.
