What's the furthest you've travelled to buy a Clio (or any other car!)?

  Exclusive no. 144
As per title...

I'm travelling from Edinburgh to Reading tomorrow to pick up an Exclusive. I love Scotland, but it's slim-pickings when it comes to buying cars! I flew to Wales many years ago to pick up a 205gti (Miami, of course). The best thing about the long journeys to collect is the drive home :D

So, my complete journey will be about 800 miles and probably over 12hrs by the time I battle traffic.

I drove in a Box van for 14 hours with my father in law to pick up various switch gear... We did around 600 Miles. Man i was TIRED at the end of it

Drove to Wales in the wifes Megane. was around 350miles round trip

  A SHED!
Drove to darlington for my integra and Oxford from North Wales for 172 cup. When the time comes again, i wouldn't mind travelling if it means finding a decent motor. Saying that I've been to see a trophy just outside of Bradford and it was a state and nothing like the owner described. The owner thought I was gonna buying as i'd travelling a fair distance...idiot.

Never that far really, whenever something comes up that's miles away - e.g. in Scotland & I think about going, luckily one pops up within a couple of hours drive. Mind you, I've only ever had a few cars.
Did 600 yesterday. . Didnt buy it :(
Yeah that's always the gamble. It would really annoy me.

What happened?

Drove from mid Germany, a cross the channel to London. 800m round trip.

  Cio 172 Cup,Porsche
I would hesitate about going to see a car in Bradford, and I only live 9 miles away.Older cars there generally have been cosmetically tastelessly modified and quite possibly thrashed mercilessly as well. I went to Annan from Leeds to buy my 172 Cup. I also looked at one in Liverpool ( a real mess), one in London(wouldn't even start when I got there) and a Sport in Keighley( not quite good enough for me, and it wasn't a Cup of course).

My 182 came from Peterborough (not far from me at all), but I wish I had of looked further afield and found a better example, it would have been worth it and would have probably worked out cheaper in the long run.

  dan's cast offs.
Flew Manchester to Zurich and then drove back to the Wirral in an '81 lhd wr Quattro. Car was on swiss plates, did we slow for speed cameras...;)

Best purchase was 3 miles from my house.
Second best purchase was less than 1 mile.

Spent numerous entire days on the road travelling to cars which are nothing like as described.

South London, twice and Reading once. 2 trips to Heathrow, one to Gatwick. Loved all 3 trips. Especially the TT one, that was the furthest.

687 miles from his house to my house iirc. Britain is a small island.

I haven't bought a clio yet, but I am hoping to go and look at one on Saturday, 260 mile round trip.

I bought a classic mini from bootle in Liverpool, from where I live in Kent the trip was just over 550 miles.

I drove a mate to get an impreza in Birmingham just over 120 miles each way.

My TT came from 10 miles down the road in faversham. My ST came from about 12 miles the other way in Maidstone. Both of which I still own.

A work colleague flew up to fife from Kent for a Focus ST 2 years ago.

I'm certainly not afraid to travel for the right car.

Drove from Shrewsbury to Cheddar Gorge to look at a Classic Mini Cooper, was not impressed to get there to find out it was a poor imitation.

Flew to southern Ireland once for one, was glad it was ok as didnt want to have to hitchhike home, lol.

I live in Bristol and have bought clios from...
Cumbria
Leeds
Halifax
Wrexham
St Ives
Norfolk
Ipswich

To name but a few.

As gally says, what's a few hours to buy a car that you want? I can't understand people that set their parameters at 20 miles. Madness.

Exactly! So far I've been lucky, let's hope tomorrow goes as smoothly :)

Actually, the 205gti from Wales showed poor oil pressure and then once it got warm it was almost hitting the red, but it got me home so sod it!

About 140 miles round trip for a stupid Octavia vrs. Best journey was a walk down to the compound at work and back up to buy my TT, 75 meter round trip iirc.
