Wheels painted or powdercoated?

  Clio172
I was planning on having my standard 172 wheels refurbed and powdercoated however i belive there are pros and cons for both. I am worried that if the powdercoated wheels chip the finish will peal away like cheap garden furniture as the weather will get under the coating.

Can anyone shed light on this with previous experiences, and also are standard alloy wheel powdercoated or painted???

Cheers :)

powder coatings a lot tougher, it doesnt tend to chip as easy as paint anyway.
But the downside to it is there isnt as many colour options as with paint, also the finish isnt as nice as a good paint job.

I had my old ST wheels sprayed with no problems at all with paint chipping and they have been on the car for about 2 years now.

One of my mates had his alloys refurbed & powdercoated last month and straight away the paint was flaking and pealing off. Personally i think this is just down a bad refurb rather than the quality of powdercoating.

powdercoat everytime, my mate owns the wheelspecialist, any questions, fire away!

What about getting a set of 182 wheels done i.e centre caps too? I'm up in glasgow and can only find one place who refurb the lot (but obviously only paint)
