Which 6x9's?

  VaVa
I know, I know, 6x9's are s**t blah blah blah get components blah blah blah

But, I don't want to take my dash apart and I can't afford to lose any of what little boot space I have. Add to that the fact I'm lazy, and want to spend as little money as possible, 6x9's seem the only way to go.

I need a decent set of 6x9's to go in an accoustic shelf. - I've been looking at infinity and pioneer thus far. What are the best value for money??

Also can anyone recommend an amp to power them??

Cheers.

Sound stage? It this because they will be positioned in the back of the car ie behind the driver?

I know your better off having a decent set of components up front, but as I said, I'm not taking my dash off and I really don't want to spend much.

I just want a little more mid/bass.

  VaVa
I can appreciate that you'll get better sound from a round speaker compared to an oval one.

Yeah, the holes are already in the shelf.... I bought it second hand.

It's easier taking the dash apart than it is to cut holes in the rear shelf...

6x9's are pointless, i'll never have another set as long as i live.

genesis 6x9" subs

the ONLY speakers of that shape worth putting in the rear, make sure there is a good block on the frequencies though, couldn't stand hearing treble from the rear

if i'm being honest, standard would suffice in the rear for me

adams_16v has a genesis profile 2 amp for sale for £70 delivered, and the p69's are £150 from CAD

this will actually sound excellent if set up properly

mid woofer and tweeter in separate units, invariably have frequencies split from their crossover so each speak gets the correct frequency of sound

just looked at some, where do you mount the tweters and how do you get the full powe out of the speakers because some are like 150 watts?

richard - ignore the max figures, they do not mean toffee, the RMS figure is the one for reference, max output is a max power orientated car park top trumps figure, pointless in the real world. preferably (my preference) i would mount the tweeters within 2" of the mid woofer, aimed to fire the sound approx 6-10" behind the drivers head. other people use the existing mounting positions for the tweeters, which for your car, are in the dash under the grills on top of the dash

LL - shame, it's an excellent amp as well, alpine head units are highly recommended by me

Heard nothing but good about the Alpine units. The fact they also look really nice is a bonus too.

wazza, the shelf I have is a professionally made job. Although quite how professional MDF and carpet can be is beyond me, but it's pretty well made.

Alpine 9853. You can get the 9855 for the same sort of money as I paid for that now.

In fact the 9853 is reduced further on Caraudiodirect at the moment. b******s. lol

  VaVa
Typical. That's technology for you. As soon as you buy it's out of date. bit like my 172 really. lol. So maybe i'll just go for the older model!!!

so what does the crossover do, i've already installed new infinity door card speakers in the front and rear which have already got tweeters in the centre of them, would i need to change or are they good enough?

i would change them as they are co-axials, which in my experience, don't actually sound as good

but if you're happy with them, stick with them

more advice can be found in a new thread started by yourself, asking for advice, or on www.talkaudio.co.uk or www.diyaudio.com where again, you'll have to start a thread asking for advice ;)

back on topic

you had a look on ebay, see if you can get the P69's and cheaper??

so what do you have Bryan, why are the component speakers better. Also i dont understand what the crossover's for?

the crossovers split the frequencies between mid and tweeter... splitting the higher frequencies to the tweeter and the lower frequencies to the mid.

how do you get the rated power out of them because some say 150w??? simple... amp them.. all after market speakers should be amped really... that 50/60* 4 will really be nothing more than 15 * 4... and won't be the best of quality either.

if you want any speakers in the back to fill the holes... these

genny 6*9 subs

yeah you can change the colour of the buttons... i mean the display its a blue where the 9855 is biolite screen... only think about the 9855 is its silver and doesnt match... you cant win :(

  One with a few more
If you want an amp which'd be perfect to use, I have a brand new
Pheonix Gold Octane r 2.5:5 (should be able to find it in a search)
I bought it but ended up completely renovating my system so wasnt suitable by the time i was done
puts out about 75rms after being tested, at least

£50 and you can have it. I think they are 130 ish new from a shop

The whole oval speaker not being as good as circle one is a lil' bit of rubbish... the larger cone of a 6*9 deals with bass.... it's non-directional, and our ears can tell the least difference in quality of bass than any other sound. 6*9s are a cheap way of adding volume in my opinion, just because its the weapon of choice for most chavs, doesnt make it a bad thing.

6*9s.... the way forward. (no punn intended...)
