5-40 or 10-40 fully synthetic is what you realy want.

Millers is very good not cheap though.

Halford stuff depends what there using somtimes its better than others.

Renault own is good.

If it were so urgent why not search its covered loads?

What a coincedence, i've just been off phone to Renault Parts Aberdeen and they say that they don't stock engine oil for retail sale to public (they use big 25 gallon steel drums) but the guy said i needed 10w 40.

They do sell it if you order it though just sounds like they don't have any in stock as they use there oil they buy in bulk.

10-40 is fine for 172/182's it protects down to -20 or so wheras 5-40 potects down to -25 degrees not like it matter shtouhg in the Uk it is better given the option as its more vischious at low temps given the choice but not unless you do very short and loads and laods of miles a year.

So long as nothing ££ is involved then yes.

I was looking into what oil i can get locally and have been looking for 5w-40 or 10w-40 oil all can't really find some and dont fancy mail ordering as i was gonna change it this weekend ;)

I'v tried halfords.com and my local motor factors (www.autosave-scotland.co.uk/browse/Engine_Oil_Petrol_269_0_0_0.html )

What about 0w-30 or 0w-60 by mobil oils ?

And cant seem to find 5w-40 oils by Castrol only 5w-30 would that be ok ?

They also have various Millers Oils in XSS 5w30, 10w-40 and Miller XFS Oils in 5w-40, 5w-50 as well.

But which one ?:S

Also noticed 10w-60
Whats that ?

In the text below x stand for the 5 or 10 etc number
Only use x-40 oil x-30 oils are for very cold climates and where short runs are done.
don't use x-60 oil as its to thick for the pump its not used at all form memory x-50 is the highest used in the 172/182 engine and thats in very hot climates.

Millers xfs 5-40 would be my preferecne as its fully synthetic. rarther than the XSS which isn't.

I just bought 5 liters of Reno own brand from Ness Motors, Inverness. 5w40.
It was only £20.

I'll maybe give Renault a shout outta curiousity :)

Was 5 litres enough, as Renault say the oil capacity is 5.1 litres :S

Yep its enough officaly you need 5.1 liters but the dipstick alone shows 1 liter top to bottom and the engine rarly is fully drained anyway.

I also got that sh1te at my local stealer mate!!

The valver seems pretty happy on the Elf Excellium 5w40 from the stealers - just have to make sure you stick to service intervals whatever you get, and change it a bit more often if you do loads of trackwork where the oil temps get a bit higher.

(imo)

two hours ago i gave it some Motul 10W40. Supposed to be great stuff.
Before this it was always Half-synth Elf stuff (high grade) from the Stealer.

Motul / Silkoline only for me. Why risk wear/permanent loss of performance? Most stealer/high street 'fully synthetics' are total rubbish imo. Good quality oil is only about £20 extra per change! I do mine every 6K to be on the safe side too.

Thats good practice. Then again some dealership stuff is very good realy for the price its fit for the purpose they need.

LOL at s**te stuff, who told you it was s**te

Indeed...

I ran it in my Dynamique, my 182 and will be doing a full oil change in my New R27 in a month or so's time with it too...

I do an oil change every 3k..
LOL at the specialist oils, run my old 51 plate 172 for nearly 60k on LDX, , it is extended high performance oil, my engine was superb the day i sold it, and its still perfect 2 years after i sold it, Elfs been at for more than 40 years so they know their stuff.

The Elf stuff is good. Only in the end i think it's better to go for full-synth.
Supposably the full synthetics do more "cleaning" of the engine and are better to keep all the oilleads/channels open. (excuse the poor English on that last part)

Just become someones made oil for years means nothing IMO.

Elf Excelium LDX is just hydrocracked mineral oil. Not very clever.

If you want to protect your engine properly, go for an ester based oil imo.

Did I not say that you can now buy 5 liter Renault own brand 5w40 for around £20? The storeman assured me '' It's a top quality product sir, Renault would'nt put their name on a duff oil'' lol
