Rob - the tester was an experienced race driver from BTCC or ex Formula 3000 or somthing - so he was given it some! And more than likely byu far a gretaer driver than most of us! In fact I think he may have been one of clio cup racer team drivers last year - must check tonight

I watched it too. Was trying to do some studying but it distracted me! Im starting to really like the Cup.
Take out your spare wheel, remove the fuse for the ABS and dyke the aircon mate! Ta-da! One Mk1 Cup ;) Seriously, I think that might work...
LOL, Yes, it my mission to save weight. I have already ditched the spare wheel for a can of "get me home foam". Seriously though weight saving is a cost effective way of increasing the performance of your car. My next idea is to save some passenger weight by going on a diet and getting a slimmer girlfriend.

I would watch, I think you need 2 cans of the stuff for the Cup ? is this true .. dont Cups come with 2 cans ?

I would have thought so, 89Kgs of the cup...

a 172 + rick waller(191Kg) = about 1300Kg

1300kg - your weight in your 1.2 + 1.2 clio weight..

you do the math ;)

I missed that one - damn train was letting getting me home ;)

Does anyone know if its shown again (e.g. late at night, etc.)

I would take the cossie for the weekends and the cup for the week and the subaru for when the cossies been nicked.

BTW the 0-60 and std speed of the cossie is almost irrelevant as a chip and boost hike for a few hundred pounds should bump the power up substancially. From what i hear it really doesnt feel that fast as std.

Well im 70kg-ish plus the 1450kg of my clio so:

70 + 1450 = 1520kg = 50bhp/ton

191 + 1490 = 1681kg = 107bhp/ton

Damn!

though i worked that out in my head so im probably way off anyway!

Rob theres no way ur 1200 weighs 1540Kg - thats 100 kgs heavier than a new scooby 4rx - my 1600 16V weighs 984kg as standard - check your stats again boy!

Cossies aint as fast as everyone makes out you know. On paper they r fast, but if u put a 3.0 V6 24v Clio against it, i know it wud lace it. Dont care wot the books say, its bye bye Cossie.

Someone reckoned she got a bad deal on the Cup I thought it was pretty good cos,

It was filmed in the Summer, the Cup was just out and there was not much discounting going on and she got a fanatstic price for that heap she was trading. You wont get many dealers that over value trade ins and then give a price discount... They work on margins, there is always some play but you either load it on the part ex or get the bottom line price down and dont hammer the trade in. The programme always works on the basis that you pay list price, get a excellent trade-in and then see what extras you can get.

Have to agree, I love the Cup but the Cossie is something else. I dont care which is fastest cos the Cossie is a legend and itll cost 14K now and hold just about all of that value till you sell it!

I watched it last night and the cup won it for me my mate Tim has got one it just grows on you in looks performance etc, the cossie is still a legend but only lives up to its performance in the early 90s when released (in standard form as we all know pay silly money and you get silly BHP in your cossie)

I think the offical figure was 6.5, admittedly maybe they can go a bit lower than that but remember equivalent powered cars (it has 220ps standard)albeit without 4WD do 0-60 in 6.5-6.7.

The 4wd is out of date, remember much older than the car itself, any scooby would dance round it.
Official ford figure is 5.9 for the Early large turbo escorts, J reg - L reg, the later smaller turbo models, M reg - R reg are 5.7 to 60. 227bhp standard, and 140mph top end.

People on here go on about you should be able to get the clio 0-60 times lower than the book says, so that should apply to the cozzie aswell lol:D

A chip + exhaust will typically see 280ish bhp(stage1) for little money.

+ the cozzy comes with air con, abs, airbags etc lol :D

lol

what a load of sh*t. sorry to say

cossie or cup

dont be kidding urself those who chose a cup.

no normal sane person would choose a cup over a cossie.

wether a cossie gets nicked or not, harder to ins or not. attracts more atten tion or not or just sooooo essex boy. its a bloody cossie. not jusy any old cossie but best one ever a escort cossie. years to come the cossie willbe still saught after but i dont see the same with the cup. give it a few years willy prices will go back up and worth more than a cup.

whichever way u look at a cup. a cossie is better

wongy

at last, a proper view

as for the cup staying with a cossie, LMAO cupsize , youll learn, any besides theres no std cossies anymore there all 250bhp easily and have potential for much more, a escort cosworth pulling up to the lights has the same effect as a nuclear explosion,

the cars legendary, and easily matches scoobs, despite the fact it uses ten year old technology, remember the cup has vvt and all that other technological gizmos, like wongy said, whatever way you look at it the cossie is better,

Wrong i know a dealer who has a dry stored cosworth in imperial blue with just 15,000mls.

I wouldnt agree with the above two comments, i know plenty of people who hate the look of the cossie, ive also seen an owner who took the whaletail of as he thought it was ugly (In the continent the spoiler was an option) The cossie was a very good car and still is pretty good but things have moved on since.

Youre right the cossie will still be sought after, by pot bellied tatooed essex boys. I admire the cossie, but i couldnt love it! Same with any Ford im afraid!

Long live the Cup!
