Anyone just seen that motoring programme on BBC2?

Had the Cup on it! Not sure why she didnt go for the Cup, that Cossys just gonna get nicked in a week! Cup sounded so good when she floored it as well, gonna have to get myself one soon! Gonna be bye bye to the RT me thinks.

I watched it too. Was trying to do some studying but it distracted me! Im starting to really like the Cup.

Hmmm let me see, cup or cossie, its blatently got be the cossie, no contest, its such an icon, and its quicker than the cup.:D

Yeh but the Cup doesnt look like a rocket, everyones gonna think theyll walk all over it!

The cossies gonna attrack attention and everyones gonna either wanna race it, nick it or key it!

Soon as I get a job its gonna be a Cup for me! Was thinking about a CTR but bit pricey, also thinking about a Willy but finding a mint condition one is hard, found this though -> http://race-cars.co.uk/racers/racer76.htmlhttp://race-cars.co.uk/racers/racer76.html

£14000 pricey though!!!!

noticed a mistake they made tho!

they neglected to get any discount on the car when trying to buy it and just focased on how much she would get for her old car so she could have got a much better deal on that cup!

Bit pricey? 14k for a willy is loads regardless of miles. Rather have nathans for half that..

Take out your spare wheel, remove the fuse for the ABS and dyke the aircon mate! Ta-da! One Mk1 Cup ;) Seriously, I think that might work...

If you buy a cossie you buy it to get noticed, thats the whole point, its an icon as i said before, and if i had a cossie i want to race people, i am not dising the cup, its a great car, its just not fair to compare the two, they are two completely different cars.

To be honest i would probably swap my Cup for a cossie anyday. Not that i dont like my cup, i love it, but ive always had a think for the escort cosworth its the ultimate hot hatch.

LOL, Yes, it my mission to save weight. I have already ditched the spare wheel for a can of "get me home foam". Seriously though weight saving is a cost effective way of increasing the performance of your car. My next idea is to save some passenger weight by going on a diet and getting a slimmer girlfriend.

LMAO @ Zidan!!! A slimmer girlfriend? I wouldnt let her hear you saying that mate!!!

If I could live without the rear seats I think Id ditch those - Rhys took his out on his Mk2 and reckoned they were pretty heavy... Thinking of getting an AP-22 so I can do some before and after runs with the weight saving mods, just in the interests of research, of course... ;)

i was very tempted also by the cup, that dim girl must have money to birn on insurance,

2live should able to back me up on this but isn;t a willaims (and therefore a cup) quicker to 100?

ive gone off the escort cos now, when i was 16 and had a moped i used to get very excited about them but now i can see they are slightly over rated in standard guise

that bird had 3 cars (2 5 gts) and that vitara and she was 23 !

she could afford an escort cos + the insurance

god im in the wrong job

I didnt see the CUP badge on the door pillars so I though it was a sport. I didnt see the whole programe though, did they say it was a CUP ? Anyway I got one and its great fun !

Yup it was my baby - looked lovely didnt it!!!! We all come around to liking it and wanting one in the end dont we!

Whoever thought of the genius idea to strip out the spare wheel, ABS and aircon from there MK1 must be a bit stupid coz that aint gonna make a cup its just gonna make a low value resale MK1 - the point of buying an actual cup is that its the real thing - it also is alot different to Mk1/Mk2 172 than simply removing the luxuries - different ECU, wheels, sound deadining, thinner glas, different trim, suspension, camber and castor etc - minor things u may think but hey thats what makes the cup different! ;)

Oh and its quicker too......................

Well said cupsize, however you did forget to mention it out handles the 172 sport and the V6 Clio on the track ! both by over 2.5 secs per lap. Now thats going some !!!

Have either of you actually tried it?? ;)

I doubt the cup is quicker than the V6 around a track.

I really enjoyed the programme, the cossie looked fab but i thought the cup looked just as good! Around a wet track the cossie is of course going to be better being 4wd and the rally car ride made it a bit bias! The problem with the cossie is it costs about 15k for an A1 car, which is about 10 years old. It costs loads to maintain and insure too. Ive driven one recently and it isnt as good as a subaru to drive, you could tell that by the way girl reacted after having to make a decision between the two. The car i drove has also needed an AA truck twice despite being maintained by a good owner so unless you have a lot of money dont get one! Despite my niggles over ABS the cup gets more and more tempting...

Actually it is true. EVO tested all 3 cars as well and the Cup beat the V6. Doesnt suprise me around a twisty track.

Maybe a twisty track but at the end of the day the V6 is mid engined and has more power so as long as the driver doesnt spin it theyre safe!

JonL - The cup is just as fast as a cossie in a straight line, its also better round the twisties.

She liked the minis engine, ahhh! I laughed when she said only grannies take notice of it though !

Is the Cup really as fast a cossie in a straight line?

I thought the Cup did 0-60 in late 6 seconds and Cossie mid 5 seconds?

Nope cossie does it in 6.5 and top speed of 140mph. I was suprised that EVO got 5.9 out of the RS Focus, i also saw another test with 6.6 as the time, i wonder if they upped the press cars bhp??

Rob, ur forgetting the weight of the V6 again against the cup - get a hold of the Evo mag from November or December 2002 and read for yourself - the cup beat the V6 and 172 and its just as quick in a straight line too (fraid to say Ive been in one and wish I owned one, but thatll be afew years down the line me thinks)

P1s do look really good! I could cope with a 22B as well..

cupsize - I did see it, i get EVO on subscription. Wasnt it like a few tenths between them? I didnt rate the tester anyway, in fact none of them have seem to have much history in driving though it is a great mag, witty, great photos and of course the best cars!

Escort Cosworths do 0-60 in 5.8 seconds with a top whack of 139, so the cossie would win easily until it topped out. The cossie has 4 wheel drive, its sooo blatently quicker.

power to weight ratio of a standard cossie is probably not much different to a cup. Its only quicker to 60 because its 4wd not fwd

I think the offical figure was 6.5, admittedly maybe they can go a bit lower than that but remember equivalent powered cars (it has 220ps standard)albeit without 4WD do 0-60 in 6.5-6.7.

The 4wd is out of date, remember much older than the car itself, any scooby would dance round it.

RobFenn - the Mk1 V6 is NO fun to drive on a track IMO. You just cannot commit to a corner with any confidence because you just do not know what the back end is going to do. It feels like an old 911 on kanckered shock absorbers. I found I could brake much later and carry far more corner speed in my 172, so I fully expect the Cup to be a little quicker still.
