Williams F1 Canuba Polish

  Alfa Mito 155TB

Went to halfords today to buy Zymol Canuba wax polish to do my iceberg silver 172, they didnt have any left...normally I use Auto Glym, but instead I bought Williams F1 canuba wax polish as last resort (probably rebadged Zymol).

Got home, washed the car and polished it 3 times wuth the Williams stuff...the paint work came up like a mirror and its none abrasive.. I think its better than Autoglym as it doesnt leave any white powder and it goes on and polishes off with ease.....but it is probably comparable to Meguires gold and zymol...although Ive never tried them.

Also Did the alloys with the same stuff and they absolutely sparkle now in sunligh..I would recommend trying it..bit pricey at £9.99 but looks the biz. But it actually works...

At the weekend if it is still warm and sunny, going to re-polish to see if the shine gets any better...good preparation for sh*te winter weather to come.

My bro works in Halfords and that F1 stuff is other products rebranded and price incresed. You can get the same stuff but a different name for cheaper in the shop somewhere.

I think it is the Zymol polish...had it of been in the shop it would of only cost £7.99 instead of £9.99 . Williams are doing sh*te in formula 1 anyway..not really worth the branding.

It was first made in 1910, but I personally along with many people think it is the best wax ever. We stock it in my shop and sell a lot of it, probably because I tell them it is the best. But I warn them that it is very hard work. Everyone I have ever sold it to and have used it properly have came back to the shop and said thanks for the advice that stuff was awesome, and that it was a b*stard to use tho.

I have used it before, the stuff I put on today is a wax....i have used the simoniz stuff in the past on the alloy wheels of my Ford Puma....kept them in great condition

My dad always says that the harder the wax is to put on and take off, the better a shine on your car. He would never put liquid cleaner on his car, always using wax in tins, and I tend to do the same.

:)

as a point of interest, the factory where they make simoniz (I think) is 5mins walk from my house..they have a big pic of a bottle of car polish on their wall...mmmmmm tastefull.....

You have to do one pannel at a time, id say and good hour anyway. And that is hard work for the whole hour.

as for applying wax polish..oh its hard work...but it makes some job of your car.

You do have to do one bit at a time, but once you get going you fly through. It also leaves an almost water proof finish on your car for a good few weeks.

I do it before the bad weather, then after it.

ONe coat of the Simoniz stuff is enough, and once youve done one coat it is not as hard to do the next time as it leaves a coat on your car. Your best to do it in coolish weather, do it in the sun and youll never get it off your car.

Max Power didnt rate the Williams stuff.

I use AutoGlym Super Resin Polish... but I also bought some Turtle Extreme Wax - Both very impressive products I find.

Daz.

You just cant beat that fairy liquid fininsh when you have ran out of car wash and wax!

I found that using autoglym washwax all the time dulls the car!

What do you guys use on your tyres? I was using halfords wheel slick stuff....nuff said! !

whats the best and dont cost £££

autoglym is only effective because it cuts into the paint work...keep rubbing it and one day you will be down to the primer...

if the F1 stuff was complete rubbish then it wouldnt give a mirror shine...but it didnt take any paint of the car..I agree the branding idea is shallow....i am sure by the time i have used the whole bottle (this weekend) it will look better again...

but the 172 has had alot of admiring glances today...funnyest being girl in passenger seat of peugeot 205 whilst her boyfriend was sat in drivers seat..not sure if she was looking at the car or my arse in tight trousers lol...he wasnt happy as i smiled back...she should of been mine lol

Going to buy some simoniz old fashioned wax after I have polished up the car to top shine....£4.99 isnt to bad and if they are selling it after all of these years they must be doing something right...respect to Colin_S

I think the simoniz is awesome stuff, and as for the tyre stuff, Turtle Wax Extreme Tyre Gel. It is the best and I have used a lot of stuff. You get some Extreme bumper, cockpit and tyre spray but it is crap, the tyre gel is the best. Auto Glym Wheel Cleaner is the best for Alloys. Used to use wonder wheels but the Auto Glym Stuff is better. Auto Glym Instant Show Shine is really good for temporary shine. And Turtle Wax Top Coat Sealer is awesome to put on after the wax. Gives an even better shin and last for ages.

after polishing the car wednesday, i used that Back To Black stuff on the black bits on back bumper, wiper arms, window seals and front grills and around fog lamps and aerial etc...surprisingly i did the tyres with it and gave them a rub with a cloth and they came up brilliant, still look good today

My boss uses back to black on his tyres. We sell hunderds of cans of back to black ever week. It is the bigest selling product we have. However i think Auto Glym Bumper Care is far better.

Do any of you use one of those electric buffers? Or do you all use some of that elbow greese Ive heard so much about?

  Alfa Mito 155TB

I have an electric buffer, but it is packed away in storage...waiting to move house. It is really good on the flat bits, takes alot of the effort out...could do with it now for the simoniz stuff

just got some zymol wax from halford.

do u put it on your car, or eat it - it smells fantastic, I am sure summat that smells so good must be ok to eat.

it looks like that stuff luke skywalker was drinking at his uncle owens house in Star Wars part...errr 4 i think.

I have just been looking for some simoniz in halfords, none there though, so I settled for some turtle wax metalic stuff (it eas in a tin).

Put some on and results are good but will have to apreicete them in better light, needs more coats im sure.

Anyone used this stuff?

Ive been motoring and polishing for more years than I care to admit (ok ..22 yrs!). I started off on Simoniz wax in the tin ..... yep it was bl**dy hard work but gave a good finish to my first car, a white MK1 Ford Escort.

Winter time is the best for polishing with this stuff. Too hot in the summer (well ... what our summers used to be like!) ... the polish just smears and dosent shine up right. The finish would last for about three months, after that the water stopped beading on the paintwork.

Anybody remember when Liquid Diamond polymer polish came on the market? That was the biz and lasted longer than the wax. That spelled the end to conventional wax polishes.

Anyway ...Im now older and "wiser" and have been using Auto Glym products for about the past ten years. A bit expensive but easy to apply and finish lasts for a good six months. I use the Super Resin polish, Super Gloss, Bumper Care, Alloy Wheel and Tyre Shine. The Super Gloss is amazing stuff. The water just falls off. I generally now just wash the car with a hose/brush and alloy cleaner on the wheels ...no need for shampoo. A quick skoosh over with a Tutlewax Aquablade followed by a well soaked chamois leather .... showroom condition!
