Window Tint - Removal and Recoating

  As father and son....
Right with winter being here i've noticed just how stupidly illegal my front windows actually are, so with this in mind im gonna whip them off in the new year (the tints ya dirty buggers) and replace them with light smokes as per the legal spec.

Anyone got an inkling of places in and around the West Midlands/Staffordshire that do this and are reputable? Thanks in advance!

(Cost 180 for tints all round and a sun strip, 50 quid to remove the lot, and they said they'll knock some off if i have it done there again)

i work in the tinting business.

all tints on front windows is illegal.

you need 70% VLT (visable light transmiton)

they isn't a tint on the market that meets that spec.

as for removing them.

get the car in a warm place i.e garage.

and get a hair dryer out and warm the tint.

you want to be working with 5" strips of tint.

start from the top left hand corner and peel the tint back on it's self very slow.

warming it gentle as you go.

if you got a cheap job done your tint will be a nightmare to get off.

leave every bit of glue on the window.

if you got a good job done it will be a doddle.

but just follow those steps.

5" strips + warmth = happy clio owner

to remove glue just use white spirit.

hope this helps

i think its pretty dangerous the tints on your car, now that its winter and its darker for longer i can see why you would want to get them off. although it does look quite cool

tints only look good if it's a light tint !
50% VLT is the perfect shade for any car.

anything darker and it looks to micky mouse to me.

tint is there to make a car look good not look stupic with jet black windows.

sorry but i hate dark tinted windows

  As father and son....
car was sold to me with them on from a registered dealership, according to legislation theyre liable to pay for any removal costs i incur. Result.

Does anyone know how to put tints on? some kind of DIY guide including taking the front windows out?

  ITB'd 172 POPTART
Cut the tint to match the window

water the tint

water the window

should stick to window in position........

then use a heatgun taking care not to burn the tint

and as you heat the tint slowly use a flat like edged smooting tool to gentally rub against tint working from the center. forcing water to edge.

your sorted!!

also u don't neeed to take the front windows out it will once stuck with water slide down into place. also remember that it needs to be cut 10% biger than standard size as it shrinks
