wiring a amp question.

Car  172 and vw passat
ok. my car had a total elictrical problem but i dont know if it was my amp that caused it, but all the electics went faulty and in the end i had to get a new alternator.

but my speakers sound crap without an amp and im abit scared to try it again if its gonna screw up my electrics again, and advice is this normal or am i doing something wrong?

cheers for the help :D

Kinda depends on the power of the amp. There shouldn't be a problem. I've amped loads of cars and have never had a problem!
I asume you have you taken the wires straight from the battery?

ye was wired straight from the battery.

just alittle scared to reconect it if is gonna cost me another alternator.

How old is the Alternator? It could be that it was just nackered and worn out! Shouldn't damage it though. Think i'd give it a try with the new one on!

to be honest i dont think its anything to do with your amp.... hmm have you looked eles were? what do you mean by electrical problems? what kinda things have been going wrong?

Have you replaced your alternator yet? if not its worth uprating toa mre effecient one rather than straight replacement

the amp shouldnt of caused it fella,

Muttley what village is it you live in, i drove past a ph1 172 the other weekend in a small village out buntingford way, might have been you?

well, the powerstearen, abs lights came on inc service lights, i took it into the garage i bought it from (still had a warenty on it) the took it to arnold clark which couldent figure out what it was :P, so the garage i bought it from had his emplyed mecanic look at it again and he replaced it.

and all has been fine from then on. might of just been nackered, was the orignal from 2002

I would say ot would be fine. But, if your amp has a function which you can turn the wattage up or down, then turn it down. I've just fitted mine and whilst connecting the remote cable to the HU i shorted the circuit, blowing the fuse. Its a right fannie on.

theres nothing on the amp to able to turn it down. speaking to my brother about it 2day and he said the sub could cause it sometimes if its nt working properly.

You think this is true or he just fibbing?

nothing i've ever heard. the sub will only drive what the amp puts through it! Only thing i can think of is the earthing, but the chances of that being a problem are tiny!
