Xenon Headlight nightmare!! Bloomin useless halfords! Help?

  Family Bus
Only being a new clio owner i'm not very well informed about the workings of things! Need some advice pls! Front Xenon Headight has gone and went to Halfords for a replacement. First they sold me a halogen(!) then when I pointed it out they sold me a 15 quid xenon light. Saw Phil fromCS that night and he said it was the wrong bulb and I should have paid alot more for it. So now I don't know what to do, where do i get these expensive bulbs from? And halfords also said they couldn't fit the bulb because it was too complicated (apparantly bumper has to come off etc) So I'm stuck! Help!!!!! :S

The xenon lamp is a D2S from memory (I'll check) and Halfords will not stock them. Renault sell them at about £100 odd but they can be had online for around the £70 mark. You certain it's the lamp?

If only you were closer... ;)

Bumper doesn't have to come off by the way, they were just fobbing you off there. It is a bit of a pain but bumper off is OTT.

The bumper does have to come off!

I replaced mine once only to find out it was the ballast units that had gone (and usaully is). This meant the bumper had to come off again. Renault wanted £600 quid for two new ballast units but I found some on the net for £250 and fitted them myself.

Did it just fail or any other symptoms?

Have you checked fuses etc? :)

Chad, why remove the bumper to change the xenon lamp? The ballast I agree with, but the lamp? :S

If you can hear the ballast firing up and the bulb doesn't light, then it's probably the bulb. If you can't hear it then it may be the ballast? Try plugging it into the other side to see if it still fires up that one?

Unless your Houdini you can't change the bulbs without removing the headlights. You can't remove the headlights without removing the bumper.

Ive replaced both Xenon bulbs in my old 172... didnt have to remove the bumper and my hands arent exactly small !!

Bit of patience is all you need.. removing the bumper is OTT.

I agree :approve: Bumper off is the way of garages jusifying the £££'s they charge!

Only to remove the headlight would I resort to removing the bumper!

Maybe have a word with the garage you got it from? Maybe some sort of comeback/goodwill gesture they might offer!?

'm afraid i'm not suprised to hear Halfords were messing you about.

I try and stay away from them if i need stuff for my car and go to the local motor factors or the Renault Stealers if really need be as the Halfords in Aberdeen are totally clueless :(

You will find pictures of the bulbs you need in this post i posted mate.

As i have just upgraded my xenon bulbs to higher rated ones.

Heres the link.
