Clio Cup Track Toy Project

Car  Clio 182 track car
Ok well I have always wanted a cup for the track and finally got my hands on one. It's already been stripped out, has coilovers, seats and harnesses, rear brace, and some wind deflectors, so not a bad start. My plan is to continue with the track theme, general tlc all round and add my own touch to the car and hopefully just enjoy a few track days in it this year!

Here she is....

Then a few shots when I got her back home...

I've got a few plans for it so I'll try to keep the thread updated. 1st jobs this weekend hopefully is to sort the induction kit and steering wheel out.

Nice car same colour as mine, I took my 172 Cup on track for the first time last week it was a blast lol going back again on Tuesday. I'm pretty local to Oulton Park so hoping to get quite a few in this year.

Looks a clean car mate. Probably the best way to go by getting one with a load of stuff already done, my cup was standard and will cost alot to get it to the spec I want.
Happy trackdays!!

Cheers! I'm not really local to any but determined to do a few at least this year!

It needs a bit of tlc but will hopefully get there with it. Yeah, I've got a standard ph1 but couldn't resist this when it came up as a lot of the time consuming bits had all ready been done.

So made a start on her this afternoon, took the custom induction set up of my ph1 and set about fitting to the cup...

Next job was to remove the stereo as that won't be needed anymore!...

Plus this made room for me to fit my custom din switch panel...

Really pleased with how it looks!

Also removed some unwanted graphics from around the car, plus the stock tow eye which was still in place which will eventually be replaced by a ktec tow strap...

Before....

Picked up a nice set of freshly powder coated 15" speedline turbines today, colour is a bit much for me so might not stay orange for long!...

Came wrapped in some nice yoko paradas also which was a added bonus!...

I've just bought myself a 172 Cup for some fun on the track. I'll be interested to see how easy the Corbeau seats are to fit as I'll be buying some later this month. Keep us updated.

So, after a bit of google searches I saw this...

I knew the wheels wouldn't stay orange for long, so out came some nice gloss white paint.

Good clean up and degrease and all masked up ready for paint!...

First few light coats on....

Few more light coats then a finally heavy coat to finish...

Really pleased with how they have turned out and much better than the orange IMO.....

Leave them inside to dry over night then next job to fit them!

The car had an exhaust rattle on tick over, a quick look underneath and I think I have found out why! 😊
F83BCB5C-1EE4-41F5-9BE2-5264DA53610E.jpg

No rubber in the exhaust hanger what so ever! Another job to add to the list!

Decided to fit the speedlines today, so off went the turinis!...
400FF83C-EE9D-4182-A5EF-AD004E08079D_1.jpg

While the wheels were off I decided to raise the front ride height as it was far too low for my liking...
2FF3C96D-2FA3-4D85-AB3D-E8C99B3415D6.jpg

Then fitted the new wheels and dropped the car back down, was hoping it sat better at the front, but it sat even lower!!! So I must have adjusted the wrong way! :triumph:

Still the wheels look nice!...

Managed to get the drivers seat out also....
2A05DCB1-BD13-41ED-B7D0-83E585A3E92C.jpg

Then managed to modify the omp subframes to fit the new corbeau seats...
B8A20C0F-CB55-4A69-9BFB-DBB1CEEB5EC6.jpg

Then trail fitted, I really like these!...

Also managed to remove the front bumper, plan is to make it quick release for trailor loading etc, remove the front fogs and treat it to a repaint as it has a few battle scars from the car being so low!...

Started to mod the front panel so the bumper can be quickly and easily removed for track days etc. First part was to secure from the top so drilled out two existing clip holes...
C60958DB-749F-405F-A6CD-84A11581BD19_2.jpg

Then instated riv nuts...
DD48B42F-A7D2-4E1E-9E6D-C274F6272CA2_2.jpg

Bumper back on then allen key pro bolt with washer inserted, makes a nice secure fitting and easy to unscrew in seconds...
0D2A1C6B-FCEB-4B20-8C7E-8A8AC5B6848B_1.jpg

Plan is to add a similar set up to the sides of the bumper to secure either side.

Removed the wheels again and adjusted the coilovers again also, the correct way this time, sits much better now IMO....

Continued with the front bumper, first cut away some of the lower grill to allow fitment of a tow strap....
321241F1-6033-4EDE-94D5-899DAC06E393_1.jpg

Then number plate removed and holes added for better cooling...

Back on the car too see how it looked...
F4E8AEB3-E95B-4D6C-8F72-8C54EAC1169B.jpg

Just quick release catches to add then full bumper off to be painted as it has a few battle scars.

Looks good.
I am interested to hear how you find the seats height wise as searches show that people think the OMP seat frames are a bit high? I am considering them as they are much easier to fit than going down a custom route.

I just had an accident in my Silver Cup so looks like I will also end up with a blue cup and white wheels. Might Vinyl the roof a different colour to make it a bit different. :)

The omp frames them selves are not that high, however I have noticed a difference with the new corbeau seats as these have runners and then side mounts which raises the overall seating postion. Nothing dramatic and still lower than the normal OE driving position. You could just mount the corbeaus to the existing chassis with some minor modifications if you want to be that bit lower.

@Scooby_drew those seats look great, how are they for size/comfort?

Trying to work out if I need to go for XL to get my dad in! (32/34 inch waist)
Thanks, I really like them.

These are the standard size version and I am a 34 waist and the fit is nice and snug. I would recommend the XL for anything above this though. You could always buy one of each just in case that way you could always quickly swap over if needed?

Thanks for that. I was happy with the seating position with the original seat at its lowest height so the OMP subframes with side mounts might be ok for me.

Front splitter fitted this afternoon..

Can't believe how much a difference these splitters make to the looks of the front of the car...

Much better IMO

Another one of us building a track slag for the summer, good work so far. I have the same Seats or Seat in my case and Steering wheel  What exhaust you going for? Try to get rid of the Ktec coilovers when you you can, I think thats what's on there from the pic? Very soft for track.

You must have good taste then! Ha.

The coil overs were fitted by the previous owner, so they will be staying for now. I'll see how they hold up if it ever does see the track and decide from there, I only bought this as a bit of a project and for fun, not looking to spend silly money or for it to be a track weapon.

The car also came with an aftermarket exhaust, although ideally I'd like a stealth style system again no plans to change it just yet, just maybe add a decat and 182 ported manifold etc.

Are you considering drilling through the front panel behind the bumper to make the most of the holes cut in it?

Yes, that's the plan. I was going to just cut a section out with the grinder but don't want to affect it structurally too much, so I will just replicate the holes using a hole saw again.
