Its your Arnold clarks / Halfords / Kwik Fit's that charge £40/£50 an MOT due to there overheads as its only £1.50/£2.00 a MOT Slot and it will be them that can afford to install all this and the MOTs will hike up also.

It wouldn't shock me if the Govt. effectively bumped up the road duty to cover this as yet another measure of reducing ICE cars on the road.

Drive an ICE car? See your road duty bumped up by a further £100 (minimum) as we have to pay for the install of a CCTV network across the MOT infrastructure. Have an EV? Clearly don't need emissions testing - in fact, let us pay YOU per year for being so wonderfully wonderful to the environment.

OK, the last point is daft - but if they can see a way of introducing this at a minimal cost and in turn charge the people who are creating this as an issue to begin with (us ICE drivers) - then it's a win-win in their eyes.

It also has the additional push to get more people towards EV. When you have nearly £300 per year in road duty for a 15-year-old Clio - how many people are tempted to jump ship for the Battery Brigade? Increase that to £400-£450 and see those numbers rise.

I'd rather pay an extra £100 a year on road duty than drive an ordinary electric car to be honest.

I've no issue with paying more either to be fair. If electric cars are indeed greener, and the vast majority are driving them, then great.

Anyway, it's only another 25 years until my Clio is exempt.

Same view as me to be honest - it really would have to get silly expensive before I'd give it up.

The most likely issue we'll face with the internal combustion engine - is the reduction with the petrol station network. The large corporations that deliver and provide these fuels, usually within a mile or two of our front door, is not going to fund these stations with only a handful of cars coming through.

Even if they switch to mega-rapid chargers where battery cars get a 90%+ zap within two minutes - they aren't going to allocate space (and storage) to a tank of a few thousand litres of the good stuff.

Amazon will no doubt continue to sell it in 10litre shot barrels. Though with the reduced market for such refined petroleum, I suspect the likes of current racing fuels will seem cheap in comparison. https://vpracingfuels.com/product/mr-pro6-ht-reg/?c=221

It’s amazing how valuable the 172 cats are, if Tommy pays £450 makes you wonder what the refiners are getting out of it at the end.

But you think, he buys at £450 and will no doubt get a whole one of those big white bags full (from what I’ve seen of the cat buyers on YouTube) and be able to ship the whole lot to the US paying a lot for shipping and still making a decent profit off the refiners.

So if the refiners are paying him well enough for that they must themselves be getting a lot out of it. Amazing there’s that much precious metal in them really.

Fair play to them all.

Surely he doesn't send it all the way to the states?

He's said before he makes little money on the deal, but thats why he's the go-to cat buyer cos he pays the most for em.

Not sure if he does directly but the process I saw the other day showed the majority here get bought up and shipped to huge refining places in the US.

Was just pondering how much the end refiner must be getting considering middle men are paying so much.

I did watch a vid from some bloke that did it himself but it was weeks of refining DIY style and expensive chemicals.

Tommy operates on mass, the more he gets through the door the more money he makes. His percentages for profit are low, that's why he gives the best price

Anyone that pays more than him are either the main processing guys or they're f**king retarded/avoiding tax

What is a cat off a 182 worth, didn't realise the 182 I'm breaking had it still but fortunately it still does. Who is Tommy and do I get a price from him through you @Yorkshire Pudding ?
