I thought this section I posted in was general automotive? We can't all drive hot hatches and have the cash for new audis and bmws?😂

Well if you want a more constructive comment would of been better off going with a crew cab van.
More practical, 6 seats, better handling, higher driving position etc etc.

  BMW 330d :)
Well then its not £185 a month is it. Its more like £255 which isnt quite as great.
I got a Seat Ateca for £280 a month 15kpa and its a far superior car imo.

Well I don't need to worry about depreciation on mine otherwise I wouldn't have bought it. What spec is your ateca though? What kit does it have on it?
I'm paying £185 a month for a 5 year old BMW 328i - I wanted more car than what I could afford on a new car but I can see the added benefits of inclusive perks
The kids love it as you can kick it out of junctions slightly sideways in sports mode and it drives well so suits what I need. Downside would be the way kids seats sit against the bulge in the seats for the rear wheel arch but thats always been a BMW problem.
Costs wise after a year i've got to do the brakes and give it a full service

I would like something like that but if the Mrs is driving it mostly and it's doing the school run 70% of the time it wouldnt be the right move.
How is it so small inside?

It's bigger than the qashqai so it's all relative I suppose..

No i agree with your reasoning hence why i bought a family car on lease also...
Mine has the same spec you mentioned plus slightly more id imagine. s**t slow engine though, annoying manual box. Glad the mrs drives it most of the time.

Looks like you can only post new cars in this forum if they are hot hatches or 100k supercars.. Also if the moderators are leading the slagging then it says it all..

I thought this forum is about cars? Might be wrong...
It is, but it's about cars that people are passionate about.

I have a tumble dryer at home. It wasn't cheap but I needed one for the family. Lots of people are in exactly the same boat as me but I imagine that virtually none of them would be interested in me posting a thread about it.

There's nothing wrong with buying a car like a kitchen appliance if that's what you need. Just don't expect other people to be interested in it.

Yeah thats the reasoning behind it for me as well. I suppose as Daniel said the world would be boring if everyone liked the same thing...

And it would be as refined and suit the mrs as much as this? OK...

Sure most new vans are as refined as cars now, interiors of the news transits and vivaros are really nice with all the mod cons.
Plus your higher up than most Range Rover drivers.

You asked for opinions though? What did you honestly expect? It sounds like you possibly regret going for the car and put up a thread hoping for some positive replies to make you feel a bit better about your purchase.

At the end of the day it’s a decent family car and the price seems decent enough for what you’re getting. I quite like them but doubt I’d start a thread on here about it lol

Ive had fast cars and hot hatches just like everyone else on here. It may not be the most exciting thing in the world but like I said it fits our needs..

Interesting timing this, my wife’s car is needing changing. She has a Mini Countyman which is frankly an absolutely awful car. She is very anti any kind of lease and or finance deal, albeit I have now convinced her that spending our savings on cars is not a good idea. She wants something like a T-roc, Qashqai, Kadjar etc. She does about 5k a year. The issue I have is with the initial rentals. It’s certainly disingenuous selling a car at £185 a month with basically a 10% first rental IMO.

Nice car though, for what it is! Un-insulting, practical and comfortable. Not sure what’s not to like.

I realise that the initial deposit was high. But I had the money and wanted a lower monthly payment. Anyway thanks for the positive comments. I'm not saying its a car that will set a car enthusiast's heart alight but it serves a purpose as a family transportation device. Anyway I'll make sure I don't post anything else on the forum unless it's a ferrari or lamborghini. Cheers for the feedback!

I thought it seemed a fair deal. Then the £1700 disclosure, maybe not so. In hindsight, they're likely be throwing these things at people post-covid, but not that you were to know that + that might not be the reality.

If the kids ruining your previous car was a concern, then the cost of handing this back with scuffs, school run & shopping dings would also be a worry.
It doesn't tick alot of boxes for most people, barring the colour, that's probably where some of these facebook group style responses are coming from on here.

MY OPINION is, that we are not alone in the universe.

😂😂😂😂

The reason I bought it was for hopefully trouble free motoring for 2 years. But I get your point about the scuffs and dents. I'll just need to be paranoid about it and watch where I park it 👍

With a lease you want to pay the smallest initial payment possible, preferably 1 month. If you go and write that off next week, even with GAP insurance you will have lost that 1700.

I never thought about that with leasing.
Learn something new every day. cheers.

P.S I've only ever leased a TV, in the late 90's.

But you didn’t buy it as a vehicle to set peoples hearts racing did you!? It’s a tool for shipping family, kids, dogs whatever around. Which is exactly what I need for my wife now, which longer term means I don’t need an estate when my car is up for change.

In terms of the initial rental/deposit, I’d happily pay that or more with and ownership led finance agreement. Just I want the penny and the bun with leasing (cheap payments, below deposit) I’ll likely buy a used one agin I should imagine. Unless a cracking lease deal comes up soon. The issue is that new vehicles are going to be very difficult to source thanks to factory closures, new car sales have been in decline since way before COVID. So no one is chasing registration targets. As such getting deals on new vehicles isn’t going to be as easy as everyone believes.

Thanks RustyMojo. That was the point of this thread but I guess it is lost on most people. I was actually saying to the Mrs last night that I wanted a new car for myself.

As I've bought a practical family car for her then it means I can buy something impractical for myself :D

Anyway by new I mean new to me. I had a 172 Cup from new and kind of fancy getting a clio 182 just to tinker about with and have fun with.

Sounds like we are in similar situations. I have a BMW diesel estate, which is 18months old now, nice looking comfortable and reasonably fast family boat. Wife has the Mini Countryman and i bought a 182 at the beginning of the year just to mess around with in the garage. (I have only driven the thing home from buying it 😂) when we replace my wife’s car it will be like replacing the dishwasher. However I want a comfortable dishwasher, with some specification as when we head away for weekends away we will likely use it. This also means I can buy something more fun when my car comes up for renewal (due October, but that may change with company policy based on C19) at which point I’m thinking I’ll take the cash for cars payment and buy a Golf R

Yeah I think we are in similar situations. I love cars and I have always done. And I think I did quite a selfless thing buying something that the mrs could drive around with the kids even though its not my idea of a fun or exciting car. But now it just gives me the excuse to buy something I want rather than something we need as a family..

The upfront payment is a game changer isn’t it.
You are £6140 deep and will walk away in 24 months with nothing.
That’s assuming you don’t get stung for any damages on handing back.
If that suits you and it certainly seems to suit many out there, then crack on.
I’m certainly not slagging anyone off for their choices. But it’s not my cup of tea.

Cheers. I've already warned the mrs that if she kerbs any alloys or scrapes anything then she is paying for it..

Also I could have paid less of an upfront cost and paid 300 a month for it so its all relative.

Also my mother in law got the smaller base spec capture as a used car on pcp and is paying quite a bit more than me. She also only has 8k miles per year. So I don't think the deal I got was too bad..

Trouble free motoring, its a Renault.

I would have said it was a good price to waste a month on that if you hadnt thrown away 1.7k to get it down to that price in the first place. I dont really get PCP on brand new average cars, just get one thats 2/3 years old and already lost the bulk of its initial depreciation and get out a loan for it, or if you wanted, get PCP on it, oh and also extended warranties do exist for second hand cars. Even on a 'cheap' PCP deal *cough 1.7k* you're still getting bent over.

I had looked at used pcp deals but they worked out at a higher monthly figure for the same deposit on less miles a year.

My Point exactly. This is the cheapest Kadjar in the spec I've got on Autotrader. Worth only £14k after just over a year... (Ouch) If I put the same deposit in as I paid changed the term to 2 years and put it up to 12k miles a year then it is £70 a month dearer than what I have got plus its a used car with 14k miles on it! If anyone else can find a cheaper way into that model of kadjar that I've got then you have a point. But I haven't seen any..

Honestly, I can't stand cars like this. They're absolutely pointless. You want a bigger family car, get an estate.

Also, whenever I see a car in a red like that, no matter how much you say 'it really pops in the light', it just makes any car look properly pov spec, even if it isn't.

If you're happy with it though, fair doos.
