Ye I'd say dead as a doorknob if its still playing silly buggers after a dosage of CLIP[emoji23]

@Inferno182 you got any mate?

Clips useless on angle sensors, one in the personal collection is the same, won’t reset no matter what you do

There must be something in the air, 3rd time this week I’ve been asked for one,

However all being said I need the 8200 number off yours, Theres about 500 different ones for some reason [emoji2359]

Thank you @cliocollins 👍👍

Yes I did buy new window seals for this car. I managed to get hold of one brand new seal off eBay, and then had to buy the other side from my local stealership..

Near/Passenger Side: 77 01 207 588
Off/Drivers Side: 77 01 207 589

Is it a window out job to replace the seals?

Incredible build thread, what a car!

The battle continues...

Managed to get a steering angle sensor from the smashing chap that is Tom aka @Inferno182 aka BTT motorsport in Wigan. Definitely worth reaching out to this chap to see if he can help if you’re in the 💩! Very responsive and knowledgeable, thanks mate!! 👍👍

When I took the car for a little drive up & down the road recently, I thought something was loose at the front of the car, but I now think my issue is the Top Mounts creaking??

Got a new set of Febi mounts on my Bilstein coil overs at the moment and they creak like a pensioners knees...! Need to figure that one out..

Next I also realise I’ve not got any reverse lights... so I assume the issue is with the gearbox switch. I’ll bridge the connection to just confirm before I spill half of the gearbox oil on the drive giving it the old quick change (with the car jacked up one side)

Thanks for sharing my misery!!! 🤦🏼‍♂️💥🥜🥓🏅♟😱

Project COVID-Clio continues to plod on..

Gave the Bilstein’s a bit of a tweak today and raised the suspension front and rear to allow me to run the front wheel spacers with the 205/45/16 wheels. Interestingly, a 25mm-ish increase in the Ride Height doesn’t make the car looks like it’s on stilts:
BB704E0C-C6C0-4329-9919-F37ED686B31F.jpeg

(The picture with Bonnet open is after the increase)

Also finished off a few small jobs today,
  • New reverse switch as the lights weren’t workIng
  • Re-set the gearshift
MOT booked not come hell or high water on Mon 20th Jul...

Last thing to do in advance of the MoT was to fit a new pair of OEM Renault (updated design) front suspension top mount assemblies as the brand new Febi Bilstein ones that were on the car were knocking like something on the bloody Ghost Train 👻!!

I took a photo to show the old/aftermarket assembly, with the new Renault design. First impressions seem to say the knocking has stopped...!?

I then roped my dear wife to give the car a little run up & down the Estate road to see how it feels, and also let me “look” at it:

1st August 2020, Car taxed this morning so I could have my first drive!!

First thing was down to the local garage to get the tracking done:

Then it was tentative little Drive around town to get the feel for the car. Overall super pleased by it but noticed something... quick search of Cliosport later:

Since the rebuilt box went in, I’ve had an intermittent notchy engagement of 5th gear. I couldn’t decide if this was due to the PMS linkage not setup correctly or if the synchro was fucked?
All synchros and bearings were renewed so seemed odd to me. Had a chat about it with Alex at AWM and we hatched a plan to investigate.
Long story short, the 5th gear synchro was new, but the selector gear was very worn indeed. These are NLA from Renault so Alex came to my rescue with a used item from a low mileage box. Subsequently with the minty new item fitted, no more crunch.

Oh you absolute fecking R-Sole Renault!! FFS!! Looks like the gearbox has got to come out for another look-over.... 😭

If it’s just 5th Steve it can be done in situe.

I noticed the Lower front suspension arms and driveshafts being nearly horizontal when I had the tracking done last weekend so being aware of these roll Centre kits, I thought I would have a punt on one of the Kits from Scott @Tomotek as it’s easily reversible if I switch back to bone stock sometime in the future.

Ordered the kit on Sunday, and it arrived today (Tuesday) in some beautiful packaging:

Look forwards to getting it on.

Nipped down to a local garage that offer custom exhaust fabrication and had a chat with the guy about removing the restriction in the original Catalytic Converter 🐱.

After a few minutes of chatting I was soon talked round to removing the OE cat all together and replacing it with a 200 Cell Magnaflow Sports Cat and new pipework to improve that area all together.

Picked it up today, and chuffed to bits with how much better it looks, and all the restriction’s have gone:

Nearly ready for it’s appearance with Chris/Scoff/EFI-Tuning later in September.

Why is this angled and not straight to the centre section?

Finally got round to fitting my Roll Centre kit from @Tomotek today.

A fabulous bit of kit with everything you need and super clear instructions, all credit to Scott, it’s well worth the money 👍👍

I know many people are concerned about the open bearings on these roll Centre kits, as there’s no dust covers, but I’m not too concerned, as this car won’t be driven in the depths of the British Winter and it’s salty roads... however after a quick eBay search, I found four of these:

Which when fitted to the kit, should keep the worst out of the bearings:

Now just need to get the tracking done... again 🙄

Yesterday was the day to see this project wrapped up, as I took the car to Chris/Scoff at EFI Tuning to be mapped so I can finally drive it properly rather than potter around at my own imposed 4K Limit,

Just to remind you all what’s been done to this engine during this build:
  • Cylinder honing
  • Clio 197 Pistons
  • Clio 197 Cams
  • Supertech Valves
  • Mild head porting
  • New main and big end bearings
  • Metal idler pulleys
  • New dephaser pulley
  • New timing belt kit
  • 3 angle valve seats
  • Block decked
  • Head skimmed “a fair whack, Increasing the compression ratio by 1 at least“ Quoting Bloke
The drive up to Runcorn was Lovley, stopping off in Melton Mowbray to get some breakfast, and driving cross country to run the car through the gears as advised by Bloke:
9902E8C5-C977-4DAE-B470-AD86AE9EC495.jpeg

I have to say, I love how this car drives..!

Arrived at EFI parts and first fitted the 197 Injectors to the engine, before Scoff spent a few minutes updating the Software on the car. Turns out that the ECU programme was the oldest 8001 version, rather than the latest 8003, so Chris updated that for me:

195AFB28-9B78-47A8-AEDB-1AC7C5512EAF.jpeg

Next it was time for Chris to put it on the Rolllers and start to work his magic:

66CFD7FC-957D-4273-9931-F9B22E9B8602.jpeg

I was super impressed with the amount of effort and time Chris put into the work, and could see him tuning all parts of the map, not just doing the power run, but making sure the car will drive well, as well as perform as intended.

I took a little video of one of the power runs:

So enough of the text, it’s the graphs you’re waiting for eh..? Well here it is:

CEF96DB3-4762-4695-B022-2074266867C9.jpeg

0CBB99F7-D23A-4791-8E4E-FAC84D1D7748.jpeg

188.1 bhp at 6400 with 167 lb/f at 5250 🙄

Little bit disappointed with that as was hoping to see the power at 190 something... but it appears that everything is not right with the engine....

Chris noticed a rattle during the mapping and saw it during the power runs also, there seems to be an issue with the BRAND NEW Dephaser Pulley as it’s rattling a little bit, and doesn’t seem to be “locking in” when the VVT tells it to?? You can see that the power really drops off after the peak. He saw during the mapping that sometimes it seems to work, and then other times not... 😤😬

SH1TBAGS!!

So it appears that whilst I’m removing the gearbox to fix the 5th Gear Synchro Issue the Engine has now also got to come out to get the Dephaser Pulley changed at the same time...

Typical bloody Renault, testing my patience! I’m going out for a good drive in it today to kick it’s head in a little bit and see how it feels, will share a few pictures as it should be a good day with some interesting machinery... 😉

Thanks for reading, I welcome your comments and feedback. 👍

Ahhh man that's a shitter. Although if it's a faulty part from Renault direct, surely you can bill them for the labour of replacement?

Normally a suppliers liability is limited to the value of the part, it would be nice if they paid labour but they never will....

OKAY, OKAY.... ignore anything negative I might have said in that last post.... THIS LITTLE CAR IS BLOODY AWESOME!!!!!

Had a drive out today with some MUCH More exclusive and expensive equipment and didn’t feel left out ONCE!

I now understand why the motoring press used to say these cars were giant killers back in the day, the car is like a little terrier always giving it’s best and coming back for more when you’re wringing it by the neck!

I had a very memorable drive behind this Ferrari California, and just keeping it filling up my windscreen as the Maranello V8 was making all the right noises will live with me until I die!!

The Bilstein suspension is just so compliant!! Firm enough to give you confidence, but soft enough to give you compliance over the Pot-holed UK Roads.

The little F4R felt STRONG as I stirred the gearbox with the PMS Shifter.

Just have a little listen to this (mine’s the silent one driven by my good wife! 🤪)

Totally blown away by this little car, it will get whatever it needs to be at full strength..

Thanks for reading 💙
