Detailing Chat & Questions Thread

This thing had been car washed a lot before it came to us, then sat at ford awaiting a recall for over a month.

Black cars are such hard work especially in the heat but looks decent now.

Can anyone recommend something to smarten up the carbon tips on my exhaust? They’re hard to get to properly, but they’re starting to look s**t now.

Photo isn’t great but gives an idea what they’re like:

Clearcoat failing on them?

Probably easiest to take them off and give them a decent polish, might bring them up alright or could need re lacquered

Most likely, yeah. I think I let them sit with salt on for too long over the winter unfortunately. They actually usually come up OK after a regular clean, but now the warm and sunny weather is here they've deteriorated more. Or at least that's how it seems.

I find once CF goes like that the only solution is to flat it back and put a new clear coat on. Can’t imagine that’ll be easy with the clearance though.

Anyone know if I can make this fit with a quick release type pressure washer?

It’s got a karcher adapter on it..

Yeah, the karcher bit and metal tube will unscrew from the brass housing.

You'll need some grips and probably a bit of heat to the brass body.

Use a bit of PTFE tape or liquid sealer on the new fitting.

Awesome, thanks for that. Saves me buying another!

Has anyone used this stuff? Seen good reviews on it online

I want to get some GTechniq C4 to make the black platsics on the Defender back to black again. No idea how much I will need as I can't remember how far the 15ml bottle went the last time I had it.
Need to cover the front light surrounds, grill and wing mirrors as a minimum. If it will cover the wheel arches then 4 of them but I am not sure if it will work that well as they are slightly rubbery. Anyone know if it will work on the arches? They are plastic, just soft and a bit rubbery.

The smallest bottle they sell will be absolutely fine, I think its a 15ml as you mentioned.

Seriously, the stuff goes miles. Id expect you to be able to do all youve mentioned and still have a fair bit left over

I’m confident it would do the full thing. I did 2 cars and had a small bit left

Remember it doesn't go a huge way to making the plastics black again. It seals them. How grey are they?

My experience was very different. It almost restored the plastic parts to their original colour..
If they're not in bad nick, yes - it'll give a good "as new" finish. But it's not a product that will bring greyed plastic back to black. It's a sealant not a dye.

I used the leftover on a piece of s**t micra that was at the time 15 years old. Made it look new🤣. I’m sure I just fired it on without even cleaning. Was just rubbing the flies into it

Just had this lot delivered. No idea if any of it is any good but for the little it cost it was worth a punt.

Anyone got a longer pressure washer hose? I’m using the standard one from the nilfisk and it’s just too short. Seeing them all the time online but looking for someone’s experience of them.

I’ve got this, I’m pretty sure they will do one for a nilfisk too. The only gripe is I kinda wished it was more flexible, but it was cheap so 🤷🏻‍♂️

Cheers dude. I think there’s a balance between flexibility and reliability as the hose has to be rigid enough to help get the pressure through. I know what you mean though. Will have a look at that one, exactly what I’m after. What length did you go for?

I went for 15m, probably would have been fine with 10 but wanted to be able to leave the Karcher next to my garage and have the ability to get around the entire car without moving the machine.

I have a 15 or 20m nilfisk one. It's soft rubber and flexible, still fits on the hose real of the jet wash.
I wouldn't be without it now

Yeah wouldn't recommend the plastic type ones, for a start they are a pita for manoeuvrability.

Soft rubber type as mentioned is the way.
