HTC phones

Car  Octy VRS
Looking to upgrade this week and need to source a couple for myself and the wife. Looked at Samsung, Blackberry and Nokia offerings but not overly impressed for the plans that we can afford.

Was looking at the Desire S for me and the Wildfire S for her. £25 + £20 respectively. Not wanting to spend more and the packages are reasonable.

I like apps, maps, music and stuff, she's more of a text and FB updater. Are they decent enough for the jobs?

They're both fine, if you can use the "3" network you can get a better deal/package than the other networks.
Previously, i've used www.mobiles.co.uk to get a decent phone & claimed cashback to reduce the avg. cost much lower.
Also... can be worth going through Quidco to get a cashback deal - theirs are more reliable than ones where you have to send bills in, and up til recently there were deals ~£100 on offer!

3 was what I was looking at so that's cool. Reckon they will do the job fine after reading more reviews. Hate this 2 year contract lark though.

what about the htc salsa for the wife?

looks like it has some sort of facebook button that takes you right to facebook

I have the sensation it's brilliant, has a duel core processor running at 1Ghz each I think, it's great anyway. It's the next upgrade inline from the Desire HD.

Website looks a bit dodgy but don't be put off. Amazingly fast delivery and brilliant service. And cheap as f**k.

A word of warning though, don't go on the network 3. I was on the phone to India for 4 hours trying to cancel, then they didn't do it so I had to ring back and spend another 2 hours. Horrendous company.

HTC Desire S is a great phone. Advised two of my closest mates to get them and they are both very happy!

HTC's are pretty good, whichever you get. But I'd probably steer away from the Wildfire, the're the cheapest in the range and it shows in places

For what the wife is using it for the Widfire S seems fine. May look at the Salsa for her too. I'm not getting an iPhone, contracts too expensive and I have no need for one. The Desire S seems perfect for what I'll be using it for.

I've got an HTC desire work phone, for text and email fine although annoyingly it only shows the pervious 20 or so emails, unlike my blackberry which could show around 100. The calender is also very annoying to use and sending meeting invites is a pain in the arse. Also when sending a text the contact needs to have the mobile phone number saved under "mobile" under their contact list option, not "work" or "home". If you do not save it under mobile, there is no option to text them at all! You have to go in an manually change the contacts phone number and list it under "mobile", which i had to do for about 100 phone numbers one by one.

As for the apps store, i gave up after about 1 minute and have never used it, seemed crap but i'm not technically minded.

So as phones go - 5/10

If you can better a better handset without having to up your tariff then take it, just that Salsa, Wildfire & Cha Cha are a bit... well....... they're not that great.

notice its only the people with HTC disagreeing with me and its mainly the people who have never used an iphone that say they dont like them

Depending on which of the email apps your using you can change this.. If your using "mail" i.e hotmail :dead: then in the settings area you can show the number of emails it displays, i.e 1 days worth, 3 days worth or ALL.

I think the biggest draw to the HTC phones is the fact that generally you can get much better deals on contracts etc than the iPhone.

I've had an iPhone for the past 3 years, and am thinking of getting a HTC/Blackberry purely for the cheaper monthly cost etc as I don't really use the apps much anymore on my iPhone!

I never said I phone was crap, I like em great phone And I have used one not saying HTC better phone but VERY good phones I phone does not warrant the extra money IMO.

Those that say IPhones are s**t need to stfu.

I have a HTC sensation and it is f**king awesome. IPhone is just as awesome. The only reason I went android was the customisation you get with Widgets etc. I've thought many times about have an iPhone and Id quite happily have one but I have the sensation as it suits me better.

Agree with that . 2 years warranty on HTC tho :D

This is where Apple blow, slightly.

In fairnes, it's not their fault that people sign up for contracts longer than the warranty, but so few people take teh Apple-Care warranty extension then start crying and mis-quoting legislation to try and get their over-priced rectangle fixed.

"Sale of Goods Act!"
"EU 4 year warrnty act!"

Fine, go and get an independant and authorised engineers report that explicitly states that the fault is due to poor design and manufacture and we'll discuss it.... what's that, Apple wont do that? Well, how's about that House insurance you said covers all eventualities? Oh, what, you don't want to pay for the £150 quid excess?

SHould have footed the Applecare bill then shouldn't you. Sucker.

What have you got an iPhone for anyway, you don't even have a Mac! And why not? Because they're expensive? Come on now, play the game.

What didn't you like about WP7?

fluidity and crashes (mates is worse).

screen isnt brilliant, but think half the problem is the fact that its a Samsung Omnia 7.... altho its the gf's not mine, so i'm not bothered :P

above all, build quality - applies to all HTCs (i've had 5 of them)

I love the WP7. Screen is clear as crystal and ive never had it crash once on me. Ive got the NoDo update and the new security update and its been perfect.

its when you put a iPhone 4 and WP7 phone side by side (even Galaxy S2!) and the iPhone still looks nicer, feels nicer and is nicer to use. It may cost a lot, but there is a reason.

its when things cost a lot for no reason that i get annoyed lol

p.s. Galaxy S2 screen is horrible when compared to the iP4 :o

iPhones are great. But they just annoy me because Steve Jobbs ha you by the balls and MAKES you need iTunes, an when you install iTunes Steve Jobbs MAKES you install QuickTime, Steve Jobbs makes you pay for Internet tethering, Steve Jobbs TELLS you you can't just copy photos to and from your phone, you have to sync to a folder. I'm definitely getting a HTC next, after having owned two iPhones.

I still love iPhones but the latest HTCs are easily as good. Anyone who says they aren't are just talking rubbish.

And for the record, my first iPhone didn't have good build quality as it got the WSOD after 8 months and I had to claim on insurance.

Ordered the Desire S, arrives tomorrow. Vodafone offered me the same £25 deal as I could get with 3 so no need to switch to another network.

the first iPhones were shoite, it wasnt until the 4 that i took them seriously.

Quicktime is optional.

iTunes is the biggest bag of w**k since fanboys saw the first iPhone

I use the HTC desire HD, bloody great. Stock 2.2 rom was good, now using it rooted with cyanogenmod 7 which is awesome.

3 out of 4 wrong. That's not bad.

MAKES you need iTunes - Yup. Windows Phone MAKES you need Zune if you want to do what u can with iPhone/iTunes

when you install iTunes Steve Jobbs MAKES you install QuickTime - nope

Steve Jobbs makes you pay for Internet tethering - what? no.

Steve Jobbs TELLS you you can't just copy photos to and from your phone, you have to sync to a folder. - 50%. you can copy off the phone (using windows explorer), just not back on to it.
