R S stamped inlet

  Clio 172
I've just bought an R S stamped inlet for my 172 plus in the process of trying to buy a 182 exhaust manifold,i was wondering if I paid the right money for the inlet and what they normally go for, plus once I've got my exhaust as well who is the best person to get to map it. Should I see about 8/10 hp more but a big difference in mid range? Many thanks Nick

Just changing the manifolds wont see you those sort of gains, just like a 182 doesnt make 10bhp more than a 172 in the first place.

Remap does make a noticeable difference on these engines though.

By the way the 182 manifold isnt a direct swap if you want it fitting up to a 172 exhaust

Yeah I thought I would probably need to modify the cat in some way to get the manifold to fit, I was thinking should I get them gains with both the manifolds and a remap?

Its hard to tell as these engines vary quite a lot as standard, so some respond better than others.

Its unlikely to make a difference thats enough to be worth the hassle and expense though to be brutally honest with you.

Rolling road it before you fit it all then rolling road it after you've fitted it then map it a rolling road it again to see the true gains.

Doesn't the 172 have larger exhaust ports than the 182? The Cup and Cup Racer certainly does, IIRC.

Trouble is, you end up doing a couple of hundred quid on power runs and fuel just to find out a figure that you then cant really change anyway.
As always Im sure others on here would be interested to see the results of it done like that, but not enough for them to offer to pay towards it, lol

Its only the phase 1 (and IIRC some cups as they are a bit of a phase 1/2 mismatch) that have the bigger exhaust ports.

True, but even if he only does two runs £35 each he'll get a good indication of if he has done any better.

I paid £25 for my lower RS inlet. I saw a set of inlets go for £200 + on ebay last night. MENTAL.

It was 50 pound. Just be nice to have a bit more grunt lower down coming out of corners that's all. I done a track evening at brands hatch on the 20th and could have done with more torque lower down I think. I will do the exhaust and get it live mapped be good to see a nice torque curve!

An rs stamped inlet is marginally bigger internal dimensions, as such gas speeds are lower and if it makes any difference at all to low end torque (it wont that you can notice though) it would be to make it LESS not more.

I think you are going to be very dissapointed with your purchace by the sounds of it.

If you want more low down torque, buy an RS2, but they arent cheap I am afraid!

Il get the bits put on and mapped and see if I notice it, they are only marginal modifications so not expecting the world. Eventually il be going on to itbs. Defiantly before Christmas but want to get wheels tyres suspension and brakes done before then. Have ds2500 pads ready fit so just bits at a time I guess

Total waste of money swapping inlets and paying for a remap to suit now if you are going onto bodies soon anyway IMHO.
It just wont be making enough difference to be worth spending a few hundred quid just to have it for less than six months.

Yeah I see where your coming from might not bother with the couple of trackdays coming up get it set up on itbs and then I'm done. Are them rs2 inlets anywhere near itbs?

i spent quite a bit on different mods on my old ph2 172 a few years ago and the best mod i done was 182 exhaust manifold and k-tec decat link pipe, the driveability of the car mid range was massively improved, from memory overall including the AWT matched inlets, itg filter and k-tec stealth i gained 15hp and 15lb/ft but mid range was a gain of nearly 20hp and 20lbft!!!

Itbs will give you the best gains in terms of out and out power.

RS2 is a nice halfway house between the normal inlet and ITBs, gives you about half the gains but with no loss of drivability (in fact its actually improved, the torque curve is amazing, basically flat from 2500 to over 7K) or problems cold starting etc that put people off ITBs on a daily.

For a trackday car, ITBs (or forced induction) make by far the most sense, you will need cams too though to capitalise on them.

That's what I'm looking for il go down that route then. Does the de cat bring the engine management light on?

  182/RS2/ Turbo/Mk1
Lol!

Leave the sensors both electrically connected but put the after cat one in free air so the ecu thinks its working is simplest way.

I wasn't actually asking, I've seen this question asked about 3 times this week so I guessed someone else would come along and ask after what you're previous post said.
