Fifth Gear Tonight, Clio 182

bikes are cool for kids.

grown-ups value their own life a bit more.

however grown-ups should get more of a life.

hmmm.. 1-1 then. each to their own.

BTW F1 sucks. Tractor pullings where the action is.

Regardless of what pulls what,F1 is still king...Why cant you dum wits still see that speed is onlly gained by more wheels................

The official outputs are:::

)-60 in 2.3

0-100 in3.7

0-180 in 9.4 secs(which is 10 secs quicker than any bike)

If you can find a quicker time on a bike give me it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

around race tracks, from F1 down too Gts,cars are faster than bikes...........As for crescents challenge to beat the radical turbo around the nordschleife is a joke

If I remember correctly, at the Spanish GP circuit the Moto GP bikes achieve a higher top speed on the main straight than the F1 cars. This is despite them exiting the final turn at a far lower speed due to the lack of downforce.

The lack of rubber and downforce does hamper zero to whatever acceleration times but clearly on a rolling start its a different matter.

Yeah that sounds about right, the downforce that F1 cars carry gives great cornering speeds but masses of DRAG on the straights.

u saying a gp bike does 180 in 19.4 seconds?? u must be crazy man... a standard gsxr 100 does 0-186(v-max) in way less than that...

its common sence that a bike with no drag what so ever will accelerate quicker than a f1 car once rolling.. The bike doesnt feel drag like a car so just keeps going and going..

And a bike can easy match a top speed of an f1 car on todays tracks.. Catalugnya this year ducati were hitting 214mph.. anothr 2 tracks bikes were over 210mph.

Todays f1 cars dont touch that

Will a moderator shut this f**king thread. Its well of topic and getting boring now.

Once rolling a F1 car would blitz a bike. If you watched Driven a few weeks ago, youd have witnessed both bike and car were neck and neck until 100mph where the car left it like someone slammed on the brakes on the bike. F1 speeds at Hockenheim reach nearly 220mph.

Stats on Catalugnya

Shumachers fastest lap was 1:17.450 with an average speed of 215.070km/h
Rossis fastest lap was 1:44.641 with an average speed of 160.949km/h.

Someone else did the research.

Bozm, dont like it, dont read it, its that simple.

Yeah we all agree that a bike is slower on corners (NO Downforce) so lap times would be slower of course.

That Driven thing was done with a SBK, not a GP bike, very different, a GP bike is lighter and more power, also it was a standing start. not really suiting a light bike and NO traction control.

The whole test was geared up for F1 lovers if you ask me....??

Infact power to weight the GP bike is better than the F1 car.

btw, on the track you mention the GP bikes where going faster than the F1 cars on the straights, which is what we were saying...

at the end of, its still out of this world the power/litre u get out of road bikes, and bhp/tonne is summat else.

How? it was a straight line run where bike are supposed to have the advantage.

Infact power to weight the GP bike is better than the F1 car.

and then add the rider

btw, on the track you mention the GP bikes where going faster than the F1 cars on the straights, which is what we were saying...

Did I??

More rubber and traction control make F1 car easier to start from a standin start

Infact power to weight the GP bike is better than the F1 car.

and then add the rider

And add the huge drag from all those F1 wings

btw, on the track you mention the GP bikes where going faster than the F1 cars on the straights, which is what we were saying...

Well someone did, anyway the GP bikes where faster on the straight, we all know that with Downforce F1 cars are much faster on bends

Thanks jonc,Maybe ken 182 can research this himself and see that bikes dont get near cars on a track

The GP bikes are probably slower. Who cares. MotoGP has the kind of racing F1 can only dream of..... Competetive and exciting!!

For the record, I reckon given a bit of practice (he got close to Schueys lap record on his first couple of laps in an F1 car btw) Valentino Rossi could be a top F1 Driver. He has more skill in his right wrist tham most F1 drivers have in there whole body. IMHO!

Yep GP bikes are slower on corners, but would hate to see Rossi move to F1, hes far more fun in MotoGP.... although MS and Rossi both a Ferraris might be exciting, just what F1 needs..lol

Bikes are only little skinny things so that makes it easier to overtake. I like watching bike racing and agree the F1 is pretty crap but I think you got to take your hats off to schumacher and say he is a pretty sh*t hot driver.

Hopefully f1 will get better (though it probably wont) but even if it dont ill still watch that exciting 1st lap every other sunday.

Im not debating overall laptimes arent quicker in f1 but a gp bike CAN match a f1 car in acceleration..

and as for bikes and cars on tracks... ive done trackdays at croft in my car and on my bike and no way would the car have been quicker.. Real world cars just dont compare to real world bikes..

my bike is only 636cc and has 114bhp with ram air effect taken into account. when your on something which weighs 166kg+ me.... thats alot!

And dont give me the whole mclaren f1/enzo/zonda rubish.... who REALLY pays £500000 for a car? a 8 grand gsxr thousand or zx-10r will give them trouble all the way to 180mph.

I agree, in the real world, not much can match a bikes performance, but for me theres more to life than just performance. My friends brother came off his bike, not even at high speed, due to diesel on the road. Amongst other injuries, he shredded a back muscle which refused to re-attach itself back to his vertibra and could not do anything for about 18 months. Thankfully hes back to his former self and still rides. For me, all the performace in the world its not worth exposing myself to that sort of risk, you cant argue that in the event of an accident, youre better off in a car than on a bike.

Yeah that is true.. and soz to hear about ya mate, but for me the pleasure i get out of bikes far out-weighs what i see as risks..

In the summer my bike is a huge part of my life.. i can have one without the other!!

And like you say its not all about performance.. how many time do you actually use 15500rpm on a road?? think ive done it about 3 times!!

its about more than speed. its freedom, REALLY being part of the machine and enjoying the road.. and its about how it makes you feel, which is the deciding factor with me and bikes..

for me cars just cant compare

I feel the same about my V6 255...:D

I rode bikes for a number of years (12), but also lost two good mates to bike accidents and because I now have two children I dont have bikes.

Bikes are awesome, bikes are fun but bikes are also the biggest killer of there owners than any other form of transport.

I keep my bike joys now down to watching MotoGP, BSBK and WSBK

good for u mate!... i cant see me riding in afew years like.. as soon as the ankle-biters come along the bikes are history... maybe time for a lotus then... how depressed will i be then though???!!

Still in the words of kawasaki uk let the good times roll...

Yep stopping biking is almost as hard as stopping smoking?

But I guess we all do it in the end....?

Simon.

still, I still have Rossi to watch and pretend its really me up there..LOL...;)

In a car you can crash

In most cases you will crash once over 40mph and thats it...bye bye

too much risk
