Attemping boosted ph1

  182/RS2/ Turbo/Mk1
Chip is a genuinely good man. He's the reason i've still got my mk1.

Its true, I told him that I would kiss him if he sold it.

Crappy commuter car for you would make SO much sense Danh90, but doubling up on insurance etc can be a pain.

So glad I have a policy for any car I own, feck insuring 10 cars seperately, I would be bankrupt.

Good to see some club spirit from Chip.

I haven't really followed this thread, but decided to check in just to ask how reliable it had been. Has the clutch going got anything to do with the manor in which you drive it now its boosted? I mean if you drove it normally with the occasional full boost attack when overtaking things surely it would last a lot longer?

I know the above sounds like you'd be pussy footing it around which is probably not what it was built for, however If it was my daily driver I'd be trying to preserve everything best I could until cash was in the bank to make weak components like the gearbox/clutch stronger?

I know yeah i think a cheap run around is definately needed then problems like this wouldnt be such a massive issue..

Also first track outing in 2 week :/

Its being driven as a daily 25 miles a day with very steady driving and the occasional blast which no doubt youd do in any car,

Set of to meadowhall today noticed was abit stiff to get into gear now and again but nothing to major anyway later in the day was having a little play with a scooby went to stick it in 3rd and nothing and wouldnt go in any other gear.. after leaving for an hour i could eventually get it in a few gears literally shoving it in and dropping clutch a few times but will not whatsoever go into reverse unless i start the car with it in gear..

Hmmm, sounds like a box rebuild for you mate. Even so I think I'd rather get it rebuilt and have a warranty on the box incase anything else happens

Doesnt sound like clutch issue??

Not from my own experience of renault gearbox's but you may be pleasently suprised, you never know with these unpredictable french boxes

It could also be a problem with the selector, a friend bought a cup with what we thought was a dodgy gearbox, turned out to be a bush/pin/clip that had failed in the selector, £2 fix later and all was well

Depends if the clutch is actually breaking up, if so the loose bits can end up trying to transmit power even when the fingers are pressed in to release it.

Gearbox gone or selector etc is possible too though, even with the car in front of you its hard to tell let alone over the net, lol

Sorry to hear your troubles mate. Very kind offer from Chip though!

Tbh I wouldn't have a turbo conversion as a daily driver for this reason. As mentioned, a cheap run about would see your stress levels fall dramatically!

One way valve can be had off any turbo car such as R5 etc. mine is off a 5.

New car is definitely needed insurance runs out end of next month so ill be getting something half decent on finance to keep for a few years I reckon.

Probably best at a scrappy then for that looked on eBay there's one of a 200sx would that work?

Going to get the box off tonight and check old clutch..

Does anyone know if I should put some oil back in the engine while its stood out as its going to be in the garage all week???

  182/RS2/ Turbo/Mk1
a week wont matter

Lesley posted the clutch today first class, so should be with you tomorrow or wednesday I would think mate.

That's awesome thanks ever so much mate.. That means everything will be back in and running sat...

Can't thank you enough!!

You need to get a shitty runabout Dan

Greenlight have insured my clio on a limited mileage policy for about £260 a year!
It makes it mad to use a car like yours on a daily

Go to the motor auctions and pick up something s**t and diesel for a few hundred quid then talk to Greenlight about a dual car policy :)

The stresses of using a project car on a daily basis used to really grind me down - most of the reason why the Clio is the only car I've ever "finished" is because I don't need it daily

I've read through this thread all the way (not just today) but never posted.

Really glad you're sticking with it though for the moment, it's a great read.

Chip's offer is IMO what forums are all about, not met him but simply awesome.

(wish I'd kept on top of my project thread, I've been close to breaking my car. I could have got some free sponsorship from him) :p

Can't imagine the build would of gone ahead without his help not just this but with info too along with alot of other people as this is completely new to me..

Fair play chip thats incredibly good of you to do that! Its nice to read something like this instead of the few threads recently of members scamming other memberss out of money!

Its good to know there are still good people out there willing to help out others!

I got a slap from the gf the other night as we were in bed and I was texting chip lol.

Lol, didnt realise you were with her at the time, I'd have talked dirty if I knew she might be reading.

It was about 3am here at the time, we're 4.5 hours ahead of you guys, im still running on more or less UK time though, last night for example I went to bed at 6am this morning and then got up at 11am local time, which is like 1:30 and 6:30uk

Not been getting enough sleep though as been staying up all night like that working on a project that I didnt want to hand over to someone else so I said I would do it in my "spare time" while not training people for 9 hours a day or travelling to and from offices etc, which wasnt really my smartest move as it turns out that most of my spare time actually is only time I should be asleep.

Enjoying it though, I havent worked this hard for years TBH

Did the clutch fix it? C.b.a reading.

I'll give you £2k for the car. I'll set off at 10am tomorrow to get it, so you are best to message me this evening.
